Well, here are some of my pictures of the vessels from the 100th year of the Canadian Navy. First off is June 9. Luckly I was able to see one of the vessels come in Canada during the time. Which was the HNMZS Endeavour A11 from New Zealand. On June 10 I went down to Saxe Point and found the USS Ronald Reagan anchored. I also saw another ship but I have no idea what ship it was. And the mystery Ship On the same day I was near the bay of the CFB and found many of the ships docked. This is all for now, more coming sometime soon.

Can we have this thread renamed to "Canadian Armed Forces Marine Division (Navy) Photos and Discussion", or something similar but less wordy? Well, here's some photos from Saturday, November 6th, 2010 of some of the Navy's vessels at Esquimalt: Orcas: I've never seen something like this before. It's funny to come across: Those aren't Orcas... those are MCDVs, or Maritime Coastal Defense Vessels. Generally used by reservists for coastal use. Generally don't go farther than San Diego. For your second pic, those signs are reminding people of a federal law that is in effect on all military bases, where marching divisions have right of way over any motor vehicle. It's a safety thing...

Thanks Nick, for the correction. I was told they were Orca's by someone who was with me.

Can we have this thread renamed to "Canadian Armed Forces Marine Division (Navy) Photos and Discussion", or something similar but less wordy? While I am a huge fan of made up names, I will provide you with some insight on the several errors that post name would contain. 1. The Canadian Navy does not exist, it is a branding name. Now a quick trip to Google and you will find this -> www.navy.forces.gc.ca/ , and think I am wrong. But if you look at an organizational chart of the Canadian Forces, which is a completely unified force (that is there are ultimately no differences between the maritime, land, and air assets higher command) you will see Canadian Forces Maritime Command.. Canadian Navy is just fine, as it is in the post title. 2. A division is an organizational unit in a (generally) land based Navy unit. Divisions, compared to "the Navy" are small, very similar to a Platoon in the Army (+/- 28 personnel). Division is also an Army term, and Canada very recently stood up its first division in a looong time. 3. The Canadian Armed Forces do not exist. From the National Defence Act: 14. The Canadian Forces are the armed forces of Her Majesty raised by Canada and consist of one Service called the Canadian Armed Forces. Now that sentance makes it seem like Canada has the Canadian Armed Forces, sort of like it seems there is a Canadian Navy. The Canadian Armed Forces is a line that refers to the unified force of Canada, a result of 1968's amalgamation/consolidation/ unification of the three traditional services into one. At that time the Canadian Armed Forces was a body that acted as the highest command for Canada's Armed Force. That is no longer the case, and Canadian Armed Forces refers to our unified effect as the Canadian Forces. "Canadian Armed Forces" only appears one more time in the National Defence Act regarding representation of the organization. www.navy.forces.gc.ca/centennial/0/0-c-1_eng.asp-- Fun fact, Marching Troops are treated like motor vehicles on DND land and must follow certain (modified) rules of the road.
