Some photos of Swartz Bay from December 29th: The crew of the SoVI waiting to board for the cancelled 3pm sailing. These footies were never told that the sailing was cancelled, so they stood there waiting to board until about 15:15 when a terminal employee finally walked by and told them to not bother. They all ended up on the 16:00 sailing of the CC. I believe this terminal signage is new! They have a sign for every berth. They show the berth number and certain statements, such as 'please wait', 'now boarding', 'upper level', 'lower level', and on berth 1 and 2, the word 'preboarding' is included. Also, the following destinations are included: Tsawwassen/Vancouver, Fulford Hb./Saltspring I., Lyall Hb./Saturna I., Otter Bay/Pender I., Village Bay/Mayne I., Sturdies Bay/Galiano I.

re Swartz Bay berths 4 & 5:
I haven't seen any news stories or service-notices about berth closures. These 2 re-builds are supposed to be done by start of summer, so does anyone know what the progress is ?

Construction/demolition is supposed to begin on Berth 5 in May and last until November. Then Berth 4 will be re-done starting a few weeks after Berth 5 reopens which will last until the Spring of 2012 I'd imagine. Both will be converted to the floating berth configuration

I wasn't aware of the change in timelines. The original timeline seemed too ambitious.

Swartz Bay on a Long Weekend at about 2:30pm, and one ship (Coastal Celebration) being in refit Wow, six ships all at Swartz, that's rare. What ship are you on here? I'm wanting to guess it's the Skeena Queen...?

Swartz Bay on a Long Weekend at about 2:30pm, and one ship (Coastal Celebration) being in refit Thanks for capturing the Full-House (and a two-of-a-kind). - did the 'Cumberland have to wait long for your Skeena Queen to depart?

- did the 'Cumberland have to wait long for your Skeena Queen to depart? It actually looks the other way around, Mike. The Cumby's wake shows that she's leaving SWB. So I guess the Skeena had to wait for the Cumby to leave. And thanks for answering the question in my last post. ;D

I was indeed aboard the Skeena Queen yesterday. The 2:30 in the afternoon time is brutal because the Cumberland just had a crew change (she's usually due out around 2:30 anyways), the Mayne Queen is tied up for a couple of hours for crew change, the Spirit is arriving (yesterday she was early), but the situation with the two Coastals. We (the Skeena) actually sat in the bay for about 5-10 minutes waiting for a berth to open up. Sometimes when the situation arises (albeit really rare), the Skeena will jump into Berth 1, discharge the vehicles, and depart empty in time for the Spirit to arrive, and then jump into one of the other berths when one opens up. Situations like these will likely occur all the time for the next year or so starting now, while Berth 4 and 5 are being rebuilt.

:)just got in the doors from a one day easter monday trip over to swartz bay and witnessed two new coastal wonder boats mothballed there, and just witnessed the third coastal wonder just about to cast off for duke point, as we returned on the other spirit boat. seems to me that these largest double ended ferries in the world, aren't quite what was advertized! my fourth trip activating my shiny new gold card, the rest of my family paying the full fare, I then gave the lost revenue back at the buffet! no pics. but that's my voyage report. :)mrdot.

According to SiiTech, the Mayne Queen arrived and tied up in Swartz Bay's berth 5 last night. I thought demolition of berth 5 started a few days ago.......?

According to SiiTech, the Mayne Queen arrived and tied up in Swartz Bay's berth 5 last night. I thought demolition of berth 5 started a few days ago.......? Apparently they have started with the demolition of the dolphins, and the berth is still operational in a pinch. Given the berth shortage with the CC situation, I'm guessing berth 5 has been pressed back into service for the time being.
