I've shown my recent vacation pictures (the ferry-related ones) in this thread. I hope you enjoy them. I enjoyed trying to take meaningful ferry pictures. ======================================= This is taken from Campbell River ferry terminal. PRQ has just emerged from Q-Cove. ------------------ This next one is also taken at Campbell River teminal. Note Mount Doogie Dowler in the background (Prominent peak southeast of Mt. Eliza and northeast of Mt. Powell on the Powell Lake-Bute Inlet divide. Named after Doogie Dowler, resident of Refuge cove and Heriot Bay from 1949 to 1983, owned and operated the Heriot bay store and post office for many years. Mountain is visible from Heriot Bay store.) --------------- The car deck of the Powell River Queen. These are the "official deck seating" chairs used by seniors and disabled, after the on-deck "cabin" was removed earlier this year. The solution is basic chairs that you could get from WalMart. A lady that we met at these chairs was very passionate about defending the residents' right to service.....she quoted me David Hahn's salary, so she knows her ferry-protest-stuff! She was wonderful to talk to, and gave me a sense of how the seniors on Quadra really depend on this ferry. --------------- that's it for photo's of the P.R.Q.

Tenaka, as seen from a kayak: The bottom-starboard passenger lounge (the "starboard saddle-bag") is used by crew for storage of supplies, and it also has their coffee/lunch room. Here's a shot of Tenaka disappearing behind Rebecca Spit....taken from Drew Harbour on Quadra. -------------

On-board Tenaka: Here's an idea of what the stern-end of the car-deck looks like. She's a 3-lane ship....each lane separated by a bulkhead. --------------- Here's a view aft, from the top outside passenger deck. Directly below the trash-can is the centre overheight lane. ------------------- If you ask to see the bridge, you likely will get to..... ---------------- For the fine-detail-nerds out there, here's a shot taken from lower outside passenger deck....you can see the afformentioned trash can. ----------------------- The starboard car lane, taken from behind. The cage is part of a guy's trailer. ---------------------- Cortesian traffic: ---------------------------- Whaletown terminal. The newly constructed "Whaletown Quay" marketplace with one-of-a-kind food merchants and unique gift ideas is just to the left, outside the shot. ------------------ Tenaka arriving at Whaletown: ----------------

Good stuff, Flugel! Bring's back memories from last summer... Except all the pics that I took didn't come out when they were developed, and I was furious about that, argg... *Smacks my head against a wall* I have to get a digital camera... But the pics from Kelsey Bay came out fine and should be posted soon!

Can't understand what everyone's been protesting about re the Powell River Queen, since BC Ferries has put in that nice car deck 'lounge', in front of the big yellow barrel....
'Nanaimo, where did you stay on Quadra, and where was your kayaking done? Years ago, we stayed at a resort at Gowlland Harbour. Very nice, very peaceful rowing around.
Nice Tenaka shots.

We stayed at Taku Resort, which is a 5 minute walk away from Heriot Bay Inn and the Cortes Ferry. It's on Drew Harbour, facing Rebecca Spit, and also facing the coast mountains that are behind the spit. I highly recommend Taku. They have a mix of cabins, some studio suites, and RV spots. www.takuresort.com/For kayaking, we put-in at the Taku Resort (they rent Kayaks to guests), and we kayaked across Drew Harbour, past Rebecca Spit, and out to the Breton Islands, which are just outside Rebecca Spit. Re Gowlland Harbour, we stayed there in 2003 & again in 2004 at Seascape Resort, which had some gothic-arch chalets nestled on a cliffside. We kayaked among the seals in Gowlland Harbour, and also kayaked over to April Point to see how the richer folks play.

Yeah...got to wonder whether those so-called "laid back" island folks really are laid back if they are fighting for such a small issue as this one.

Yeah...got to wonder whether those so-called "laid back" island folks really are laid back if they are fighting for such a small issue as this one. In many ways, those island folk are very intense, about issues that they care about. It's an interesting comparision to big-city-folk: in some ways it's more laid back (re schedules, amount of work, pace of life, etc), but in other ways they are much more passionate about issues (much greater voter participation at public forums and elections, I would think). The particular issue about the removal of the deck shelter is a valid point of protest, I believe. We've heard various comments here on this board already re this issue, but now I've talked with actual people involved on that ship (that passenger lady and another) and my opinion has changed......I see the passengers' argument now.
