According to Waterhouse's white paper, the Island Home has a design draft of 10 feet. WSF, lists the KdT's as drawing draw 11 feet, hmm?

Just rode the Salish from Fauntleroy to Vashon. They are double lane off loading and then putting out a cone and single lane loading at both Fauntleroy and Vashon. The whole trip, the crew onboard was trying to figure out how to do the multi-destination loading plus a lot of discussion about the best way of spinning the Southworth bound traffic from Vashon amongst the cars already onboard from Fauntleroy. They were also figuring out how to work around the list issue. Of course when we arrived Vashon, there were around 20 cars waiting to go to Southworth. They spun half of them and the other half pulled strait on and then spun as they off loaded. The Salish did 12.5 knots on the trip and is about 15 minutes behind schedule with all the above issues factored in. The Tillikum has to slow down to keep from tailgating. At Bremerton, the issue seemed to be the lack of speed from the vessel. At Vashon it may be the loading/unloading and the timing with the two other boats not stacking up at Fauntleroy.

Sounds like the Salish will be here only for this week and a yet-to-be-named boat will take her place next week.

Next week the Kitsap is scheduled to replace the Salish on the F/V/S route . The line-up after that, as it stands now, is the Chetezmoka, then the Salish again.

Rode the Salish today on the Bremerton route and she is really loud at the stern, so loud I couldn't hear my iPod on my earbuds. Is this from the prop being to far out of the water and the cavitation?

Yes, using the Klahowya would surely be a better option. But Bremerton will just protest a little but overall I do not expect huge sailing waits or anything similar. In the winter during weekends Bremerton sails half empty except for like 5 sailings. Nothing to full a boat anyways, so no big deal. It's only for the weekend. Thats two days. And for a trip, no need to ask me, I won't be able to make it.

On a nice day the Salish would be a great ride to Bremerton, and probably almost any day a better ride than an Issaquah class boat (that is unless you got left on the dock.)

Good. It's just over the weekend. To the rest of you ferries: Stay in service, don't break down, and just hang in there for the rest of this month. We don't want you out of service!

Some pics of the Salish operating Seattle-Bremerton this weekend. From Duwamish Head. Alert! Unfamiliar profile approaching! The Salish and two JMII sisters: Passing Duwamish Head: With Queen Anne: The Salish under the Space Needle. What a rare sight! With the Seattle skyline: Salish and Tacoma docked at Seattle: The Salish starts another crossing across the sound: A real "thru shuot" of a KdT: She just passed the Tacoma, and is most likely going at full speed: A second Space Needle shot, but unzoomed for Flagship/Signature potential: Off to Bremerton. That's it for today.

I got aboard the Salish and am currently on the Tilikum, unfortunately, if hindsight was 20-20 I would have been spotting on Bainbridge to see all the vessel moves including the Rhody since I was up in Kingston earlier today.

Really? Paint's starting to peel already?! It should last longer than that.

It's too high up for cars and if it was a truck it would've been more than paint flaking off (damage wise).

I remember seeing similar issues with the Chetzemoka, especially on the interior, not long after it entered service. That being said I wouldn't mind having a rather large chunk of that paint. Need it for paint reference on my 1:64 scale RC model of the Kaleetan that I'm building.
