Kaleetan still looking sharp as always, definitely looks better than the Wenatchee that arrived just a few minutes after this. This was actually my first time in proximity to a ferry in almost 9 weeks. Decided to pop downtown and have a bit of fun this evening.

Dang, i never knew that Kaleetan was getting retired.. Right now, it's a possibility. Might want to talk to your state legislators - and their election challengers!

Right now, it's a possibility. Might want to talk to your state legislators - and their election challengers! Well, the Kaleetan and Yakima are not in good shape, i woulden't be suprised if they got retired. First thank you, I fixed the WikiPedia page which was clearly inappropriately edited. Second, the 20 18 plan (page 10 according to Acrobat of THIS PDF) of buying another four-five Olympic-class ferries is to replace the Supers + the last Evergreen. Also start work on replacing the Issaquahs. That'll really reduce the # of different ferry classes in WSF also. Right now in 2020 at seven according to the WSF fleet page. Hope is to get down to five, maybe four classes. Obviously losing two Supers earlier than planned plus the Covid19 medical-economic crisis really messes up this plan. But I got faith in WSF Secretary Amy Scarton and most of her people and in a handful of state legislators (Reps. Jake Fey & Emily Wicks plus Senator Rolfes come to mind) to maybe with some help from their friends make a stand for new revenue worth remembering.

Hopefully WSF develops a new class, i don't think having a mostly olympic fleet will be nice...

Hopefully WSF develops a new class, i don't think having a mostly olympic fleet will be nice... Not sure why having a mostly Olympic fleet is not nice, but it seems like a more standardized fleet is the direction the state is heading, which is not unusual for transportation companies/entities. Look at airlines. A lot of them are moving towards fleet commonality, reducing aircraft types down to one or a few, depending on the need. It makes training easier, and helps with maintenance, among other benefits. As for WSF, The state deemed the Olympic class about the right size for several routes, but new 124 car ferries are also in the long range plan, likely to replace the Issaquahs at F-V-S. As for Kaleetan, the topic at hand here, I wouldn't write her off just yet. That report, posted in another thread, I think may be a worst-case plan. We're not there yet. We'll have to see how things play out with COVID and the budget deficit from the last anti-tax initiative.

And if the Elwha and Hyak were any indicators, the Kaleetan and Yakima are one major repair or one bad drydocking away from retirement. As well they should be.
