WSF did switch the Hyak to the Seattle to Bremerton route during December 3 to February 25. The Yakima is now on the Edmonds - Kingston Route from January 21 to January 28 then at eagle harbour from January 28 to February 4 then again at Edmonds to Kingston from February 4 to February 18.

I think you need to go to writing school, Mr. "Awesome Cheese". You should be using then instead of than. "This ferry is bigger than the other one." "The Yakima is now on the Edmonds - Kingston Route from January 21 to January 28 then at eagle harbour from January 28 to February 4 then again at Edmonds to Kingston from February 4 to February 18."

Courtesy of Barnacle, the Yakima leaving Colman Dock in 1979. Although looking at it, could be she's arriving at Colman Dock. Definitely looks like she's leaving. If she was arriving, you wouldn't see the propwash between the dock and the boat.

Externally there are no differences between the Yakima and Kaleetan aside from the nameplates. Internally, only a difference in interior colors separates the two. Otherwise, the Kaleetan and Yakima are exactly identical.

Actually four differences: the ones listed above, and the Kaleetan has a different crew, too!

If one were to remove the nameplates on the pilothouse, upper shelter bulkhead and bulwarks, and sit the Yakima and Kaleetan next to each other, fundamentally there is no difference.

Well that is not visual... except maybe in the number of people with laptops during the crossing. And by the way the Kaleetan and the Yakima are not going to be together at Bremerton anytime soon . She might spend a few days with the Hyak next week but not with the Kaleetan.

Crew assignments and the Kaleetan having WiFi, as well as homeport designation are not germane to the discussion of physical differences between the two.

So, the Hyak and the Elwha, excluding the Elwha SOLAS upgrades, those two would be same.

So, the Hyak and the Elwha, excluding the Elwha SOLAS upgrades, those two would be same. No. The M.V. Elwha's elevator tower is vastly different in design, and the location for the emergency power generator on the M.V. Elwha is in between the two funnels. On the Hyak, Kaleetan and Yakima, it's at No. 1 End situated next to the port-side gallery deck ramp. Also, the Elwha's curtain plate has been modified (read: rescue craft cutouts changed/eliminated).

Where do I find the rescue craft cutouts changed/ eliminated?

Was the emergency power generator location required for Elwha SOLAS upgrades? No. The emergency power generator aboard the Elwha, to my knowledge, was installed during her 1991 "forced overhaul" as the result of being bashed against a pier by 90-mph winds in the December, 1990 Arctic Express winter storm (I still remember that storm to this day!). There is a photo of the Elwha being repaired after the storm over at EvergreenFleet.com, and it shows the power generator between the funnels. Also forgot, the Elwha still has her original 1967 interior, with the only difference being that the interior colors have changed from oranges and tans to blues and browns. If you want to see differences, go to EvergreenFleet.com and navigate to the Super Class page. There, you'll find a small photo showing the Elwha when new, then go to the Elwha thread here, and compare the differences.
