Today in Nanaimo Daily News:
- front page story re Harbourlinks, which states that ridership in Jan.05 is up 47% from Jan.2004. Wow, that's pretty good.
The article does say that Harbourlinks Corp is looking at promoting Nanaimo more as a destination......
Also an article on David Hahn's visit to Nanaimo on Friday to address the Chamber of Commerce. Hahn talked about the possibility of using the old C-Class vessels as late-night truck service.....once the new ships come on line. Hahn spoke the usual message about how BCF is it's own company now, and not tied to the Government......so it is able to look at all sorts of options and possibilities.

That's an interesting point about the C class being used for overnight truck service. But how would they do it? Would they run one Class between HB and DB all night? They would probably need to employ people who don't mind working Grave yard shifts. Only non-unionized workers would work at such hours of the night.

.... or pay a hefty wage and shift-differential premium to have people work the graveyard.
(ps for Q-Sandwich: Where do you play pipe-organ? Obviously it's not an instrument that you can pack around with you. I'm guessing at a church for a church, or at a church for a choral group. 99.9% of pipe organs in Canada are most likely in traditional churches.)

the engineers already work a graveyard shift. the union would NOT allow non unionized workers on the boats or working in the terminals. if you want to see the whole system out on a wildcat strike then go for the non unionized workers. i don't think that there would be a real demand for a cafeteria on those ships or a gift shop so that eliminates a few crew positions. this also will reduce the liciense of the ship but if all you are carrying is commercial vehicles then the passenger count will be reduced so this doesn't really matter.

Hey Fluge, answering your questio about the pipe organ.
I play at Saint Catherines Anglican Church, which is only a 15 minute bike ride from my house. I usually go there to practice about once per week. I do all my other practicing at my mom's house on our out of tune Piano. My dad's instrument of focus was pipe organ when he did his Bachelor's Degree in Music at UBC.
I'm only a novice, even though I've been playing for 2 years. The hard part about it is co-ordination, Sometimes you have to play 2 keyboards at the same time, as well as playing with your feet

As far as newspaper articles go I have one I read today
I read an article in the paper today about a guy who went missing from a BC Ferry. They got worried as they found his cell phone on deck somewhere and he never came to retrieve it after a number of pages over the PA. This was around 11:45 on Friday. I am assuming it was the Naniamo ferries because the contact if you know anything was to Naniamo RCMP. But what is strange is they said he was from Victoria, but the van he was driving was missing and it had Ontario plates. Anyone here about this?? I hope I have this right, I cant remember all the details but it was something along the lines of what I said.
