Awesome photos! It is always neat to see a ship in dry dock. Too bad there were tarps all over her though, it kinds of blocks the full view of the hull.

Wow!... I would have loved to have been there... despite popular belief, I'm really not all that antagonistic towards the Chilliwack (as long as she's not underway ) I'm just suddenly wondering what that vertical structure coming out towards the end of the hull is in this photo. I looks like a rudder, but I'm pretty sure she uses the RADs to turn. Does she have rudders, too? ...adding a new structure tot he bow and stern so she can dock in European berths... What does the new structure consist of? Is it going to change her appearance and make her look anymore otherworldly than she already does?

Opps, I assume that everyone knows the underwater structure of the Chilliwack. It is a large keel. It has nothing to do with maneuverability just stability. And I have not seen this structure for the European berths yet. Cheers,

Cheers, A keel would make sense, then, since she clearly has a very rounded hull which would not necessarily be too stable on its own without the extra weight to keep the ship balanced and give a better center of gravity.

Excellent photos! I've always been curious to see the Queen of Chilliwack out of the water.

One other thing I've been wondering: How come we never realized that she has real Airchime horns before? I really wondering if those are original fixtures, or if they may have been added sometime more recently.
Now you need to add scaled down Airchimes to your model, Brett, so that it sounds like the real ship.
I noticed you can also see the horns on either side of the funnel in this image. One for each end. The almost look a little like Shrek's ears ;D.

The 'structure' you see is called a 'skeg'. These are mounted to permit the vessel to track straight. If it wasn't there, when you tried to steer, she'd be all over the place like 'a blind woman's footsteps'. You also see skegs on either sides of barges. You can see them on the hull of tractor tugs. While they will add marginally to the stabilty of the vessel by lowering the centre of gravity, that's not why they're there.

From a distance, the Tachek looks like a mini version of the Surrey.

From a distance, the Tachek looks like a mini version of the Surrey. She also looks like the Quilayute from that angle. It's all in the imagination.

Just noticed that her hard Hat has a "D" on it. Its supposed to stand for Dominion Construction, but could stand for Diana.

a "new" photo...first a question? Vessel, and location...1966. Princess Patricia, somewhere near Prince Rupert (or further north than that).

thanks for the reply. We took the Queen of Prince Rupert from Kelsey Bay in 1966 and then continued on the Malaspina to Haines AL. So trying to figure out why or how we would have been on a CP boat. Other than it was docked in Rupert and we took a quick tour.

That sure looks like Rupert Harbour in the background and this is a gem of a photo. The colour & clarity are such that it looks as if taken yesterday. Thanks for sharing!
