Here's a year-end opportunity to re-post the items that you think were your best offerings to this forum during 2009.
3 Categories, where you may now re-post 1 item into each category, here in this best-of thread:
1) Your best ferry photo of 2009, based on overall aesthetics of the subject and surroundings. This is your best overall ferry-photo taken in 2009.
2) Your most unique ferry photo of 2009, based on the circumstance of the situation (for example, a rare route placement, an event of historical significance, a meeting of multiple ships, or something else that us boat-nerds would understand and appreciate)
3) Your best posting of an historical photo or artifact (such as a 1961 BC Ferry schedule, or a photo of the Sechelt Queen approaching Little River)
No voting, just enjoyment. Please share!

Great idea! I've taken lots of great ferry photos over the years. Unfortunately, 2009 is not one of my better years. Never-the-less, I'll give this a go even though I have much better photos from before 2009. 1. Best Ferry Photo. This one was tough, because I have several that I like equally well, but I keep coming back to this one I took of M/V Puyallup landing at Edmonds around 6:45am on our July "Life on the Coast" day. 2. Most unique ferry photo. I didn't capture anything too out of the ordinary in 2009 so I'll leave you with my parting shot of the Steel Electrics in Eagle Harbor just a few days before they left for Mexico: 3. Historical photo or artifact. I re-posted a bunch of my historical photos earlier this year when we cleaned up the photo threads, so I can't remember if this one is new or just moved. I'm not sure it qualifies but here it is anyway: Klickitat at Orcas with Evergreen standing by, and Tillikum out in Harney Channel, 1981

Here are my 3: ============== Best picture of mine: - From May 23, 2009 at Westview Terminal aboard the Queen of Chilliwack. Last sailing of the night back to Comox, and the Princess is milling about, waiting for her turn at the dock. - I was happy to have the N.I.Princess turn so that I could see evidence of her catamaranness, and then even happier to see a pleasure-boat cruising behind her into the gap. ---------------- Best Unique-Circumstance picture: - From March 21, 2009, taken from Piper's Lagoon in Nanaimo. - NorEx is doing crew-training, and C'Renaissance is in-service on Route-2. ----------------- Best historical item: - Taken sometime between 1962 and 1976. Between when Kahloke was part of the buyout of Black Ball by BC Ferries, and when she was made surplus by the ripple-effect of the introduction of the C-class ships. - Taken by my late Uncle, on one of his trips to a scout camp.

It was a tough decision, but my favorite photo I took this year was of the Northern Expedition at Berth 1, Departure Bay on the evening of the day of her arrival (March 6, 2009). For the unique photo, I selected the Northern Adventure while under tow to Alang. Oops, I mean EGD... This was taken from the Queen of Vancouver while en route to Tsawwassen on February 24, 2009. For the historical photo, this proved to be the toughest choice for me. This year, I was fortunate to be on the final sailing of the Vancouver, second to last sailing sailing on the Saanich and the inaugural sailing of the NorEx. For this thread, I chose the Queen of Vancouver arriving at Berth 4, Tsawwassen for the last time with paying passengers (March 22, 2009).

My Best Picture: This image barely needed any fixes at all. The Coastal Renaissance, Departing Horseshoe Bay, on April 25th, 2009. Most Unique: The Queen of Chilliwack, operating on the Powell River-Comox Route, on May 23rd, 2009. Historical Photo: For this, I go to a picture taken on May 31st, 2009 of a picture from the early 2000s of the NIP, Bowen, Tachek, and Nimpkish at Blubber Bay. Honourable Mention: This image of the Island Sky, at Earls Cove, on September 19th, 2009

2009 for me was fairly slow in terms of ferry travel. The highlight may have been my first visit to the Pacific Buffet... then a second;) I'm not sure I should advertise this, but the second time we took the kids, for brunch, and it turns out kids under 5 are free, which sure beats buying a couple milks/sandwiches/hotdogs in the cafeteria. The buffet ended up costing only slightly more than the cafeteria would have. Anyways, back on topic... some photos from this year: Finally got a nice photo of the Skeena Queen - with some nice evening lighting: Unique photo of the year (I just figured out it wasn't from this year - but less than one year ago) Christmas, 2008: Historical photo - Albion ferries on their final weekend:

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures to offer. I haven't been on a ferry since last winter. Sorry.

Here are my picks for the year; 1. Best photo: It's a tough choice but Ill give it to the freshly redone New West. 2. Most unique: This one takes the prize, as it will be unlikely to soon. Enjoy!

Okay, I know I'm a little late with this, but whatever 1) Best ferry photo: This was a tie between about 10 different photos, so I just posted this one, which is the Northern Expedition at sunset. 2) Most unique: Queen of New Westminster peeking over the top of it's berth, while a paperboy slacks off on the job. 3) Historical artifact: An old postcard of the Queen of Prince Rupert.
