I did a solo trip yesterday to Tsawwassen on the Queen of Vancouver. I managed to see all three V class yesterday. Here are some photos. Tell me which one you think is in the best shape as far as exterior. Queen of Saanich Queen of Vancouver Queen of Esquimalt You have to look closely at the Esquimalt to see all the rust she has on her. The best looking one to me is the Queen of Saanich Second Queen of Vancouver and last and the worst is the Queen of Esquimalt

I agree with your assessment Karl. I think the Saanich looks pretty darn good, actually (mating slugs aside). The Vancouver doesn't look half bad either.
Actually, come to think of it, last summer I did a round trip on both of them, and I was pleasantly surprised that they were in fairly decent shape from a passenger's perspective (I'm sure they don't look to great below decks). Contrast that to November's trip on the Esquimalt, with the potholes in the deck and warped vehicle deck.

I'm quite surprised that the Vancouver and Saanich were actually spiffed up on the paint at this years refit. The Esquimalt is looking pretty sad right now though. In the bottom photo of the Esquimalt, you can actually find the small section of the rubbing strake that was repaired recently, from a dolphin dent similar to the Vancouvers. If you look at how the lighting shows the wavy parts of the rubbing strake until the section directly below the two waves before the big "BC Ferries". Seeing these photos gets me pretty motivated to start planning some V-Class trips. Its been nearly two years since I've been on the Saanich and Vancouver.

Agreed, Saanich is at the top, Vancouver is In the Middle and Esquimalt is Last. But the contest Really looks unfair. Comparing them when they're freshly painted, Now that's much more fair...But much more difficult. It's kind of sad for me thinking I might never get to ride aboard the Saanich or Vancouver. I've already had my share of Esquimalt but I havn't been aboard her since August 2005.

I want to get aboard the Van before she retires, the Saanich I do not care to repeat although she is in good shape as of 3 years ago.
