Following the final sailing on Sunday, March 6 through 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, berth five at Tsawwassen terminal will be closed to complete required maintenance. During this time, vessels on the Swartz Bay - Tsawwassen route will utilize berth three or four. Because of the use of a different berth, unloading and loading may take a little longer especially at peak sailing times. The work on berth five includes removing and replacing the apron, turning the dolphin pads and driving a series of new piles. BC Ferries appreciates your patience as we work to complete this essential maintenance on berth five. We look forward to resuming our regular loading pattern at Tsawwassen terminal as soon as possible. I thought it was bad enough having berth 1 and 2 closed and having the Nanny, (Alberni or Esquimalt), Saanich, Vancouver, SOVI, and New west fight over berth 3, 4, and 5. Isn't Queen of Vancouver going to be sitting in Berth 4 till sometime in the middle of next week? If so, then all of those ferries are going to have to fight over berth 3. That is crazy

They might just be doing the repairs to the Vancouver at Deas.

I just passed deas on my way home, and it's almost full. As seen from the highway, from left to right: SOBC, Queen of Surrey, Queen of Burnaby, Queen of the North (and an unknown vessel in the corner berth - between the QOTN and where the Klitsa was). There is the berth where the Klitsa was docked, but I can't remember if it's big enough (I don't know enough about deas to say). BTW, yesterday the Queen of Vancouver was still in berth 4 at Tsawwassen. The juggling act that BC Ferries will have to perform will be quite a show!

Sounds like one of the Albion Ferries is sitting at Deas then. Because during the week the Klatawa and Kulleet broke down, then Klitsa was transfered from Deas up the river to do the Albion route. Nobody was specific which of the regular Albion ferries is still working and which isn't. I'm guessing it's Kulleet thats at Deas.

Yes indeed the Klitsa is on the Albion route. I was down there today and just got a glimpse of the her unloading at the other side of the river (north side). Unfortunately I couldn't stay long as it was getting dark.

Why is she stern first in berth one? Is Berth 1 and open again after having that work done to them?

Has anyone seen the Times - Colonist article about the Sidney - Anacotes Terminal. They are talking about having small cruise ship's come in and use it - or as they stated even BC Ferries have looked at - expressed an interest - so what would they run from there ? It is not a deep terminal - and does fill up - needs to be dredged every couple of years.
Have you seen the new 10 year plan that WSF have posted on there site - and it states that by 2008 they are looking for a private op to take over this route. There 10 year plan is interesting to read - wonder why BCF haven't produce something like this? They do have a 5 year plan - done in 2003 - have they kept up with what they are doing - stating?

Yes I saw the article in Times Colonist about the Cruise Ship dock in Sidney and I have posted a message about it in the Non BC Ferries section.

Karl, Couldn't find your comments about the Sidney terminal - but never mind. What would BCF want to use it for? That is if the article is correct ?
What is your view on the new type of vessle WSF are looking to bring on line in 2008 - also did you see that it has gone out to tender - and guess what.. to Poland, Korean, Germany and USA. The colour drawings looks interesting - but also very boring. Floating hotel springs to mind.

I have no idea what BC Ferries would use the dock in Sidney for. Maybe they want to by the route to Anacortes but I highly doubt that. I dont think the route is busy enough for BC Ferries to do anything with it. It's too far for service to the gulf islands or anywhere else BC Ferries serves.
As far as the new ships go for WSF, they just look like more versions of the Issaqua class ferries. Not much bigger than the Issaqua class now as the ones now carry 124 vehicles and 1200 passengers and these new ones they want to build are going to carry 130 which is only like 6 cars difference and still 1200 passengers. Which arent bad ships. I only been on two of them, the Cathlamet from Clinton to Mulketo and the Kitsap from Fauntleroy to Southworth. Out of those two the Kitsap was the nicest as it looked like it had a newer interior, and Cathlamet was more older looking.
I guess these new ferries are just replacing the older ones, so I guess they dont need bigger vessels at the moment but would be good probably on the Port Townsend to Keystone route.
Hopefully one day I might get my only ride on the old Steel Electric Class as I have never been on them before but would like to one day before they are gone.
