I decided to change my avatar photo to a planform shot of the 787 instead of the forward-facing shot that I had before. I wanted to use a picture I took myself instead of stealing someone else's photo. So, here it is, my new avatar photo: Nice pic for your Avatar. That is the only view from my house I have seen of the Ethiopian 787 that lands early morning in Toronto and leaves around 10ish the same morning I have seen. On one of the most common departure routes it flies at about 3,000 feet until it is out over Lake Ontario and then begins to climb again to cruising altitude, all for noise abatement procedures for all flights. The 787 is noticeably quieter when it flies over my house and the view is much like your avatar. The distinctive upsweep of the wings and LED lights make it obvious for spotting. The timing of the flight means I have never seen the Ethiopian Airlines flight but have seen the LOT (Polish Airways) and British Airways 787's numerous times.

Mine for October was taken in the same area of the one above, but features a ship rather than the terminal. Here's the Kittitas arriving at Clinton on September 8th, 2013:

Low Light Mike: Just wondering, is there a reason why your signature image is just a black rectangle? Is there something I'm missing?

For the next few months, I'm going to be doing a "San Juan SuperSeries" of signature photos, showing each of the four Supers in the San Juans. The first one is a sunset photo of the Hyak approaching Lopez Island on August 8th, 2013. You'll notice the side car decks are empty. In fact, there are no cars on the ferry. You can thank the Doe Bay Festival at Orcas Island for that, because to accommodate the increased traffic to Orcas, the normal 7:35pm sailing from Anacortes to Lopez stopped here at Lopez to drop off Lopez vehicles, then continued to Orcas to drop off the rest of the cars. This gave us time to go to the viewpoints in Upright Head Preserve, which is how I got those shots of the Evergreen State for the September banner contest. Then we went up to the northern tip of Upright Head and saw the Hyak deadheading back to Lopez to take us to Anacortes (which was why it had no cars in the above shot). I took a couple shots of the Hyak illuminated by the setting sun, then sprinted back to the car.

Its already November...like whaaat? Anyways, I've only been on one ferry trip last month, but it was a mega-one and brought many good pictures. Here's one of the ones I love most, the Kaleetan making its final turn into Seattle coming in from Bremerton, with the sun finally coming out. Next month will either be a BC Ferries or a Kennewick signature, based on what pictures I get. compdude787: I also look forward the next picture in your San Juan Super Series

Here is my second signature in my "San Juan Super Series," for November. This is the Kaleetan (foreground) and Elwha in Harney Channel on August 7th; I took it from the Orcas ferry terminal onboard the Evergreen State (who waited impatiently for the Kaleetan to vacate the dock). This was the spot where Hyak ran over the sailboat recently. I was debating whether or not to enter this photo into the contest but decided to enter in the Walla Walla photo instead. In retrospect I should've entered this photo!

Inspired by other recent avatar changes on this forum, I've decided to leave my old "carved wood face on NorEx" avatar, and go to my real face. - this one is from July 2012 at Morant's Curve. My chin-beard is in full vacation glory.

On WCK's signature photo, I like how the Container Port crane in the background lines up nicely to the stern profile of NorEx. Flickr - photobucket

Mr. DOT's current avatar photo is wonderful to see. See any of his regular posts for a larger version of him at work during his time of service with Bennett's Navy.

My new signature picture: It's a unique photo that shows a Super (The Yakima) on the F/V/S triangle, which is something many ferry nuts are dying to see. And now they get to see it post after post! EDIT: I have also changed my display name from WSFAN/BCFAN to Snowy Ferries.
