This Month will feature the Panoramic views we all enjoy from the Bow of the ferries. Submissions must include part of the ship and must be taken from the furthest publicly accessible area of the ship. The shot may be taken looking off the side of the ship but it must not be a view to the stern. Now I realize that on the NorEx, the only forward views available are from a pay lounge so Photos from the taken from aboard the Northern Expedition may be taken from the furthest forward area close to the bridge. I'll allow the same exemption for photos taken from the Big Fat Greek Ferry (Northern Adventure) - Limit of 3 submissions per member - Entries will be accepted until 9:00PM PST Tuesday November 29th, 2011 - As with recent months, we'll take the top 4-6 banners after voting. --------------------------------------------- As per our new Sizing: - Our preferred size is now 1200 x 340 (pixel size) - To give you some flexibility, we will accept banners down to 1080 x 300. - Anything outside these dimensions will not be eligible. One Entry to start. Queen of Chilliwack, Mid-Georgia Strait heading towards Powell River, May 2009. Not quite the furthest forward that you can go on that ship. - I'm assuming that you're up on deck-5 or 6 ? You can get further forward on deck-4, shown in the foreground of your photograph.

Figured I might as well try a more solid effort to submit some new banners with the new format of the forum. These new dimensions offer a bit more flexability, but there are still photos I'd wish to use if only I had try to capture the point of view needed for a banner format instead of a general landscape. Oh well, here's what I've come up with since I don't have the photo bank that I used to. I might spend some time taking photos with this banner contest in mind, but no guarantees. Also, I wasn't sure what the appropriate height would be for forum board nomination, we just have the width of 1024px. I've gone with 260px with the height for the forum board nominations, however the view could be somewhat expanded height-wise on the larger final product. This first photo was from October 2010, featuring the Queen of Nanaimo during a shipmove to Esquimalt Shipyard. Here she is entering Juan de Fuca Strait, with the Olympic Mountiains to the left, and Victoria on the right i99.photobucket.com/albums/l291/ferryman_2006/053-8.jpgThis next one is from April 2008, featuring a bridge wing point of view on the Queen of Vancouver. i99.photobucket.com/albums/l291/ferryman_2006/98050176_u3nXA1Gt_bcferries219-1.jpgStandby for a third one...

Here are two from my files. This category requires a bit more work because I usually sort my photos by ferry, but don't generally include the scenic photos taken from a ferry in my ferry files! But going through old photos brings back some good memories. Here's a non-official entry that isn't really up to quality standards:

You are indeed correct, Mr. Horn, this picture was taken from Deck 5 which is not the furthest publicly accessible area of the ship. Unless Mr. Skier, the assumed Flagship Referee says otherwise, I will search for a more suited replacement for this banner. In the meantime, I have updated my original post with a 2nd, more conservative entry.

Here is my first submission for December 2011. The photo displayed below was shot through a somewhat scratched up forward lounge window on board the QotN while north bound in Grenville Channel in August of 2003. This image is hosted on my Flickr photo site.

Just a quick heads up that my original entry of the Chilliwack has been replaced with a more suitable entry.
Okay? Carry on...
