I wonder how long ago that picture was taken, couldn't of been that long ago, maybe just before they switched Queen of the North off of the northern route after the summer maybe?

if they want to do anything to the qpr while she is at tsawwassen then she has to be stern in to the dock. have seen her there before in the past at berth 1

Yeah I think they do the same with Queen of the North, I have a picture in a book with Queen of the North sitting stern first in berth 5 at Tsawwassen. But I think that picture predates the Spirits because berth 5 was just a single ramp.

The last time that I was on the Queen of Saanich, I noticed the glossy covered book called "Vancouver to Victoria - Souvenir Guide" (published by Beautiful British Columbia Magazine); I was surprised by the price, only $2.99! The original printed price is $9.95.
In it is a two page picture of Tsawwassen terminal with the QPR sitting at berth 5 (stern to), also berth 5 is still single ramped in the photo.
BTW, if you're thinking about buying the book:
-It might not be around for too much longer, as it seems to have been publised around the first few years of the S-Class service (on the cover, for example, the spirit class ship carries the dogwood emblem on it's funnel and there's no sign of Commonwealth Games livery; there is no publication date to be found in the book itself).
-There are a lot more pictures of the senery to be seen from the ferries, then of the ships themselves.

Berth 5 was single ramped. I never knew they only had 2 double ramped berths at Tsawwassen was it the same at Swartz Bay

Berths one and two at Tsawwassen are the original berths from the 60s, and have been single ramped their whole lives (obviously they want to keep them single ramped, as they have just redone berth two, and it's still single ramped).
Berths 3 and 4 have been double ramped for quite some time; in Branerman's book "The Ships of British Columbia", there is a full page picture of Tsawwassen terminal showing ferries in their original livery. I would scan and post the picture, but the book is copyrighted.
And, as we all know, berth 5 was single ramped until it was fully upgraded (with the addition of a passenger waiting area and walk on ramp) for the coming of the S-Class in the early 90s.
If you've been to Tsawwassen terminal lately, you'll notice the nice new appearance, when in actual fact, other than the foot passenger entrance and admin building, most of the old infrastructure was kept. In particular, the overhead walkways to the berths look nice and new, except they were simply given a new roof and windows.

Also the passenger loading span at berth 5 got painted different but they need to replace berth four and three and the concrete leading to them. Berth 1 is currently getting replaced FYI

I have a tone of pictures of the old walkways, construction, and the new look. I even have a video I shot from 1994 of the old old old walk way when you had to hike from the far west side of the terminal all the way to birth five (good 10-15+ run). Even shows the old turn styles at birth five (err gates). Need a Digital8 cam to digitize it all. Even got loads of video of the V.I from June 93'.

I can remember that old walkway from when I was a kid. You can still see the old terminal building today, it's towards the causeway end of the parking lot, and today it's used for maintenance. The old walkway was this ugly box of a beast that stretched from the terminal building to where it met the perpendicular walkway between the berths. The outside of the walkway looked like a mansard roof, that is to say that the sides were angled slightly, and covered with (by today's standards) ugly light blue siding. Even as a little kid, I couldn't believe the lack of foresight in part of the design: its only windows were these very skinny windows that were few and far between.

yeah. my dad told about them wanting to be seen more easily so they were painted orange. what an ugly color, and we thought the BCF had some bad paint in the past.
