2 of the finest ships to ever serve our area of the world will be featured in the May 2012 flagship.
Kulshan was much loved, but never more than by the tolerant, calm folk of south Whidbey Island.
Smokwa was the first vessel that ever took BCFerries to that desired "whole new level of service".
Usual rules apply re banner size: limit is 3 nominations per person. Nominations close at 5:00pm on April 29, 2012.

This is going to make it soooo hard for me. I have so many good shots of the Smokwa smoking it up. I will agonize over my choices. And that is without even considering shots taken by Mr. DOT...
I will contemplate all of this today while on my own personal coastal cruise aboard the QKB...

Oh, I got some pictures of the Smokwa just the other day, I'm sure I'll win this time around! ;D

I'm finally going to take the plunge and submit an offering for the monthly flagship, because I have something that I've never seen anyone else post: the Kulshan and Smokwa together.
Some time after she was sold by BC Ferries, Smokwa was sold by a third party to WSF. At the time (about 1969-'70), Kulshan was serving on the Vashon triangle run. WSF was looking at ways to save money, and came up with the idea of having Smokwa lashed to a tug- which she often was anyway, given the temperamental nature of her engineering- and having her do the short Vashon to Southworth leg, and requiring passengers to stay on the car deck for the duration. This brought crew costs down to a minimum.
WSF passengers, being the snooty bunch that they are, rebelled against the experiment, and briefly occupied the wheelhouse of the tug (the Guyle Fielder), and management backed down.
I was a young lad of thirteen or so, on an excursion with my mother, and I got a shot of the two boats at Vashon.
Thank you Mr Horn for this opportunity. I shall be posting soon.
