On the Sea to Sky constuction project, there is a plan to have either a tunnel go from West Vancouver to Lions Bay, or to have the highway to cut through the Eagleridge Bluffs. So the highway will not go right beside Horseshoe Bay. The tunnel of course costs way more, and the province is only willing to pay so much for the whole widening of the Sea to Sky Highway from Horseshoe Bay to Whistler. The honourable Kevin Falcon, minister of transportation, has stated Unequivocally to the media that the highway will cut through Eagleridge Bluffs.
As we know by looking at their record, the government will do what they feel fits their plans for the region, and they seem to feel strongly that the route they have chosen fits the region the best. The group that opposes this plan is simply protesting what is already a done deal.

There were a variety of things proposed for the new sea-to-sky highway. I remember an idea to have it running through the Capilano watershed, which is too close to homes (I live like a block away from the watershed), and it would mean heavy traffic on Nancy Greene Way and Capilano Road, not to mention the insane traffic jam that might happen at Grouse Mountain.
I am definetly in support of the Eagleridge Bluffs overland route.....I'll tell you guys why later today, I gotta get to Grouse to teach Ski Wee.

neither can I. Maybe West Van can afford a tunnel because money grows on trees there.

It would probably need approval from the BC Government.
I still don't like the idea of a tunnel, I'd much rather see good scenery when I'm driving rather than concrete for 3kms and I'm in favour of the less expensive idea as well.

Definitely the overland way. It makes sense, either cutting down a bunch of trees and probably making a bit of a profit off of them by selling them to the sawmills or something, but I doubt they would seeming more and more of them are closing down, or drilling a huge hole into a mountain. I heard one of the reasons why people in West Vancouver want the tunnel is because there is Arbutus trees through that area, and they're rare to find in the mainland.

Overland highway!! A tunnel would suck, just like if they ever built and underwater tunnel to the mainland. No big long tunnels in BC. We have such nice scenery, who would want a tunnel where you cant see anything so I have to agree with the overland highway option.

tax wise ya but if they designed it correctly it wouldn't suck so then yu don't have residents complaining as much but an overland highway has alot of noise so I have to agree with BC Ferries on this one.

If they ever did put in the tunnel, I wonder what they would do with the original part of the highway that goes above Horseshoe Bay, and even the viewpoints that look down to the terminal. That wouldn't be very cool if they closed it and dug it all up or something, because I have to go on that highway like every weekend, and I always look forward to looking down at the terminal from the highway as we go by.

I can't remember how much the tunnel was supposed to cost. $40 million or $400 million.

You don't want to forget about tree huggers with the overland highway Forget the tree huggers. They will build what is less expensive, if you know the government.
