Very nice pics! Even a couch in the wheel house - Why? - That's what Transport-Canada wants to know. But all members of the bridge-crew are refusing to co-operate with the investigation into why there is a couch on the bridge of the Coastal Renaissance. ;D -------------------- Seriously now: Maybe it's just to have an awesome-view location for a bridge-crew member to take a break at?

On a cruise ship I toured it was so the Captain could hold meetings and not leave the bridge. Let`s make sure it isn`t on the NorEx though.

I am thinking it is so that crew members can sit on the bridge during their breaks, or like pnwtraveler said for meetings. I don't know about anyone else but as far as I am concerned the more qualified people on the bridge, whether on or off duty the better. Or maybe it is so important dignitaries or Mr. Hahn has a nice place to sit.
Cheers,

When BCF had the open house for the Spirit of BC at Canada Place, there was a couch on the bridge as well. Does anyone know if it is still onboard today?

Great Photos, Kiernan ;D I Like that 2nd Photo of the Seabus. Well, BC Ferries Might of came up with something useful, yet funny. That couch would be good for breaks. For example if a Rookie is at the wheel an Experienced Person Showing him/her what to do could go and sit down and if the Rookie has a question the Experienced Person would be right there. I wonder if this is a result of nobody being on the bridge at the time of the QotNStriking Gil Island... Then again, maybe it's just there for the hell of it.

Well, folks! Great Open Ship today!! My train rides were great as well. It was quite a unique adventure for me to ride a Superliner trainset from Seattle to Vancouver to see a Super-C Class ferry on a beautiful super sunny day. And, a ride back to Seattle on the same Superliner trainset with the same friendly conductors under a FULL MOON! It was really a SUPER day for me!!
Grouse Mountain looked her best as well as those protectors of Vancouver. Mount Seymour was breathtaking! It was a balmy day compared to conditions those souls who sat in minus zero Fahrenheit in Green Bay Packer's stadium this day.
I should have brought a strong set of binoculars to see if Jordan was looking down at us!
It was really great for me to meet some of you Forum members today, and to speak to you with my mouth and see you through my naked eyes (rather than the sound of my keyboard with only words typed). Chris, great meeting you today!
Grouse Mountain really looked beautiful at night with her lighted ski runs. The last I saw these incredible lights was in the Chukanut area south of Bellingham before rounding the last bend.
Beautiful experience to take this trip today to see the MV COASTAL RENAISSANCE. Mr. Brinkmann, we are proud of your shipyard's masterpiece!
My pictures are forthcoming.

One more thing. As we were rounding the curve to the Fraser River railway bridge at New Westminster this morning, a dog was on the track! It was "take it gingerly at the throttle" for our engineer. I knew it was a dog as, where I was sitting, I overheard the conversations between our conductors and the engineer. Yes, I did see the dog! A German Shepherd. How fitting, for my train to be slowed by a German Shepherd on my way to see a German masterpiece. The dog eventually left the track and our engineer cautiously opened the throttle. ;D BOW WOW!!
Again, pics forthcoming.

Nice pics, thanks for those Very nice pics! Even a couch in the wheel house - Why? It seems to me that those were likely brought in from the next door stateroom on display which was, according to displayed plans, missing these same units.

Haha, I had a feeling you were there somewhere, Graham. It doesn't surprise me you hopped the chains, and went up to the pick-up-helipad. Well done, great photos!

A Housekeeping Reminder: The Coastal-Renaissance topic is very popular on this forum. Some members and guest post and view almost exclusively on the main Coastal-Renaissance thread in the "new ships" board: ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=newferries&action=post&thread=1167803153&page=110Some may not be aware that there is a separate forum-page for ferry-photos. You will find some Coastal-Renaissance photos located there. Now, re the Ferry-Photos page: - We've got some Coastal-Renaissance photo-thread clutter; meaning that there are multiple-threads that have the same type of photo content. - We've got 3 of those, and all 3 are in current use. - We try to avoid these multiple-thread items, as they make it more difficult for people to find photos and to decide where to post them, and it makes for some confusing cross-thread discussion. - All 3 of these photo-threads have ongoing discussion, so we don't want to lock 2, and leave 1 open. - We also aren't able to move posts or combine threads. Here are the 3 photo-threads in question: 1) ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=photos&action=display&thread=1200875272- originally started by Kiernan as "MY CR pictures", it's been used by others too. - Hint: if you start a new thread and name it "my", it makes it confusing for others to decide to post their own pics there. - For a photo-event where we expect lots of people to take and post pics, lets stay away from member-exclusive photo-threads, in the future. 2) ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=photos&action=display&thread=1200981940- This is FerryNutSeattle's "MY trip to see the C.R" and is his photo essay. - Problem is, his photo-essay is 1 item in the thread, so this could easily have been posted into an existing CR picture thread (again, for next time). - same reasonings as #1 above....as we all expect lots of different people to post pics of the same event, so no need for separate threads. 3) ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=photos&action=display&thread=1199580615&page=2- This is Scott's original thread, from the first employee open house. In future, for the upcoming CR open-houses, and for the next few ships, we should have 1 photo-thread for each EVENT. - That means 1 photo-thread for the CR open ship in Nanaimo - 1 photo-thread for the CR open ship in Victoria etc etc. Hopefully, that will make it easier for people to navigate. As for the existing photo-threads noted above, they are a good record of the open-houses to date. Just keep them specific to those first few events; and don't post any future-event items into them. Thanks!

I am following Graham's lead and using this thread for any new CR photos that I post. The 'Arrival Photo Stakeout' has come and gone in my mind, and they're 'New Photos' that are CR specific so I'm not simply posting them in the 'New Photos' thread. So here they will go. Thanks for the heads up Dave and Karl for noting that she was on her way to HSB. A family member of mine was on the 1030 sailing to Dep Bay, but unfortunately she didn't have her camera with her. That's one vantage point that nobody has been able to capture. Therefore, I managed to take some time off work and head out to the Bay for some shots. She really sounds like a helicopter when applying the bow prop on its way into the Berth. I agree that it won't be as loud and churning when a load of cars and passengers weighs it down more. Here are a couple of photos from this morning. I believe they only tried out Berth 2 this time, judging by the short period of time they were there. This time they managed to avoid hitting the skywalk! You can see the rest of my photos from today here.
