NORTHERN EXPEDITION - Photos & Discussion

We passed the NorEx about 45 minutes out of Bella Bella on June 22nd when the Kennicott was northbound to Alaska. Weather wasn't great, but I still got to see a rearely-seen ship, in a rarely-seen place except from the said ship.

The rear end is much more rudimentary than on Spauldings. But I won't go to say that it's worse than the Kennicott's.

Here are a few more photos of the NorEx which I shot from the AMHS ferry Taku back on the 24th of July.  Our ship departed about 20 minutes ahead of the NorEx, but I was still able to get photos of her (using 450 mm of tele-zoom power) as she passed in front of the Ridley Island grain & coal terminals.

Here are three photos of the Northern Expedition taken on while on my Douglas Channel - Wright Sound 4-day long weekend September 12th to 15th.  All are long tele-photo views shot from a small boat a long distance away from the ship.

In the foreground are the memorial markers or the two souls who were lost in the sinking of the Queen of the North, Gerald Foisy and Shirley Rossette.  In the distance we see the QotN's 'successor', the Northern Expedition, the ship that some believe should have been named the Spirit of Hartley Bay, for the nearby First Nation village that played a pivotal role in the QotN rescue operation.

Just put up a few Christmas trees and some lights and you would have a winter wonderland on the back deck! And that would be awesome!

The public wharf is closed for repairs, so I shot this from the parking area beside the wharf. It was raining off-&-on, so I shot this from inside the open hatchback of my car.
