She's heading towards Deas, about 5 kms (3miles) from the entrance of the Fraser River Now.
Heading ENE
Westminster Chinook, Westminster Hunter, Westminster Hyack, and JRW are at Deas waiting for her, along with 'Wack, Sandwich, Van, Rupy, , klitsa, and Coq berthed up.

The NORTHERN EXPEDITION has made her first passage into the mighty Fraser River and is being moved to her berth at Deas.
Enjoy your break, MV NORTHERN EXPEDITION!
BTW, are there any guesses on whether her builder's markings on her hull will be seen again when she comes out of Deas?

I think FNS was referring to the "Built by Flensburger" that is written on the hull, just above the rubbing strake. The Coastals had it written on the outside bulkhead of deck 7, and it was painted over (poorly, with the wrong shade of white) on all of them before they entered service.

I can't imagine why anyone would care if Flensburger's name is displayed on the side of ferries, when local builders on either side of the border have never been commemorated in such a fashion. Every ferry has a builder's plaque on board- foreign builders don't need anything more.

Every ferry has a builder's plaque on board- foreign builders don't need anything more. And if Flensburger was really concerned about whether or not it's name was displayed on the ships, they would have taken legal action at the point where BCFerries painted over the name on the Coastals. Maybe they see the Coastals as just your everyday ferries for commuters and tourists, so they aren't too worried about advertising where the ships were built, but they are considerably more proud of the Norex, so they left the shipyard name on as a visual reminder.

I don't think anyone could stop you removing the name 'Ford' off of your truck once you are the owner. The same applies to ferries.
Look for Olympic logos to appear on a NorEx near you very soon.

A couple photos to add of the NorEx that were taken today. I took these from the 3:00 and 5:00 sailings of the Coastal Renaissance...

Thanks, Canucks. I assume this stopover was for the purpose of drills. Once she entered Nanoose Bay, she dropped anchor and had deployed her rescue boat at times while I was there. I wonder if they picked Nanoose Bay because of its close proximity of ferry geeks nearby...

Maybe they were doing something covert for the navy while they were there since they were pretty close to the testing range. A little torpedo chasing in the rescue boat would be fun .

I'm surprised they chose Nanoose. The navy base nearby likes shooting torpedoes into the bay quite often during experimental tests, and casings wash up on the beach at the bay's head fairly often. We heard some really loud shooting noises (not sure what they were shooting though) when me and some friends were on the beach at the Pentecostal Camp last summer. Wouldn't BCF be afraid their ship might get shot at?

Part of the construction cost of the NorEx was paid for by the Canadian armed forces, since she will be patrolling the north coast where drug runners and arms merchants sometimes land, and is considered an auxiliary defense frigate. She is equipped with Redwolf medium range missile launchers, and Russian made Gagarin U-55 artillery systems, all concealed on the top deck. Transport Canada requires that one quarter of her crew be weapons trained. She would be able to defend herself should anything happen in Nanoose.

It's normal that there are all sorts of strange sounds and sights at Pentecostal Camps. According to Paul in 1st Corinthians 12, it's all ok, as long as it's done in an orderly fashion.

It turns out the NE went into Nanoose to await better tides through Seymour Narrows.

Carried over from the original Northern Expedition thread...soon you will be order to buy a 1:1250 scale model of that ship. Check here and scroll down to bottom of page to "Classic Collection Planned Ship Production" www.collectableships.com/models/ClassicShipCollection.htmYou can also buy the "Norroena" (Ferry designed by FSG) and "Tor Magnolia" (RoRo ferry from FSG) and "Meistersinger", a bulker built in 1973 by FSG ;-) For those interested, I have been in contact with the company in Germany that manufactures these models. Unfortunately, the model of the Northern Expedition has been pushed back and is not scheduled to be released until sometime next year. Just an update on this... The model will be received by the North American distributor soon. I have not been told what the price is yet, but I will post it when I find out...

...are there any guesses on whether her builder's markings on her hull will be seen again when she comes out of Deas? The built by Flensburger marking has survived. The marking was outlined on the surface of the metal, so it does not require a special stencil to paint it on the ship. Photo taken at Nanoose Bay - Thursday, March 11th.

The NorEx is set to sail very soon from Rupert to Skidegate. Environment Canada is saying this, currently with regard to the weather in Hecate Strait. Will the NorEx Sail? So far I have heard no complaints re the NorEx & rough seas. Perhaps she has not been really tested yet. She will tonight, if she sails. We should know soon how her sea keeping abilities compare with the NorAd. Late edit: This just in from the BCFS website: www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=165398The 11:00 pm sailing has been delayed...

I'm not sure where this should be placed.
The schedule for the overnight service this fall doesn't list any vessel servicing the route other than Primary Vessel . The Nor Ad has to be on the run until next spring when the new Klemtu terminal is ready.
