What has happened to the Queen of New Westminster? on route one currently? Also I'm planning a trip on her does anyone know when and what time I can ride her. 12 noon, 4PM from Tsawwassen and 2PM, 6PM from Swartz Bay on Fridays and Sundays. More choices over the Thanksgiving weekend. After that, on route 30 for a month or so for Queen of Alberni relief, then she's probably in lay-up until the spring.

Thanks ferryfanvr, I will probably do a ride on her tomorrow or next friday. Both for fun, picture taking, history and finally final designs for my ferry layout drawing.

Queen of New Westminster arriving at Duke Point terminal at 12:15pm on October 19, 2012. - I'm on Gabriola Island, at a viewpoint off the end of Keith Rd, which is almost opposite the Duke Point terminal.
Regular-speed video, just of her arrival spin:
Entire arrival sequence, at 2x speed

QNW in Fairway Channel, heading for Duke Point. - with Queen of Oak Bay Close-up of berthing, almost there. In the berth at Duke Point. In Fairway Channel, on her way out of Nanaimo area. - I'm on the Quinsam. (this was a 2-camera moment: one was doing video of the Quinsam's trip, and the other was for stills like this)

Thanks. It was a fun couple of hours on Gabriola, seeing the New Westminster, and riding the Quinsam. That Gabriola viewpoint is pretty good for doing photography of Duke Point ships.

BC Ferries has tweeted that there was an incident aboard the Queen of New Westminster this morning, and all passengers are safe, waiting for more details.
The New West is currently at Tsawwassen, and the 12:45 departure from Duke Point has been listed as canceled.

Why is that bow thruster thing so noisy on the New West? Is there something wrong with it?

If the new West is still out of service tomorrow & beyond what will her likely replacement be?

If the new West is still out of service tomorrow & beyond what will her likely replacement be? If the New West is down for a number of days (very likely) and it's not possible to pull the Alberni back out from her refit, the most likely scenario would be the SoVI returning as the No. 1 from Swartz Bay and the Celebration moving to Tsawwassen as their Route 30 vessel. ...and that's only if Tsawwassen crews are still cleared to work on a Coastal. If not, things could get interesting.

Is this the first time two Coastasl has been on route 30 at the same time? If the New Westminster is still out service tomorrow.

Well I think they added a 7pm out of Departure Bay as that sailing is usually cancelled during the week on route 2. Can the Inspiration do route 30 in 95 mins?? I thought I was on her once and she did. Make the Inspiration go faster add more sailings on route 30. lol!

Doubtful a Coastal could do route #30 in 95 minutes. A 95 minute crossing would require an average speed of about 22.5 knots and, to make up for slow speed approaches to the terminals, a peak speed of 24 knots or so.
The fastest recorded speed for a Coastal is 21.5 knots.
