Queen of New West in Berth 4 - Tsawwassen: Okay, this is confusing me. I thought on the NorAd had blue railings, and even on her, it's only the upper rail of them. Which ship would this be on? I don't think that photo was taken aboard the NORTHERN ADVENTURE. This was taken at Tsawwassen Terminal and this must be an open prom there. This does, however, show what railings would look like in colour aboard BC Ferries if they adopt the railing colour scheme WSF has on the railings aboard its fleet (WSF railings are painted green).

I'm going on the Queen of New Westminster this Saturday for a round-trip for fun. Are there any photo requests or suggestions? For details, it will be the 4:00pm and 6:00pm sailings, and I will be staying behind on the ship until about 9:00pm, courtesy of the generous crew. Some behind-the-scenes stuff would be nice! Not just the traditional wheelhouse tour, but maybe something new that we haven't seen before!

Such as the crew only areas, like the locker rooms, mess rooms, galley, etc.? And maybe even a crew picture, showing one of the 3 Queen of New Westminster crews, the hardest working crews for Route 1 ;D Correct. Maybe monkey's island, inside the funnel, on top the funnel? I dunno, be creative I don't think you should bother the crew to try and get them all in the same place like that. They're supposed to be working, so that's what they should do. But if they're all already in one place, then go ahead

Photos of the Royal City Queen, taken on August 26, 2010, from on-board and from other ferries. QNW in Tsawwassen's berth #2, photo taken from arriving Coastal Inspiration: My new favourite spot for sight-seeing while aboard the QNM. The forward end of the upper car-deck. - ferry-in-the-window is the Queen of Nanaimo, at Sturdies Bay. Upper car-deck is still the same style of loading as she was for Route-30: - 3-across on the port-side for fatter vehicles, and 4-across on starboard for regular vehicles. ---------- QNW sailing across the strait, towards Active Pass. Photo taken from the SOVI. - I love those colours.

Did the QoNW have Gallery decks in the past, the same way that her sisters do?

Before she was lifted she had a car deck configuration the same as what the Q Burnaby & Q Nanaimo still have - fixed ramps covering part of the main car deck and a listed auto capacity of 192. As far as I know MCD ramps of any sort have never been present at any time since the lifting.

Yet I can still not quite see how those ships were listed as being able to carry 192. Today, the Nanaimo gets at least 180 with everyone crammed in, and everyone cussing at the deckhands for how cramped the cardeck is.

Realistically though, you have to remember that this capacity stat applied back in the late 60s/early 70s.

Pre-lifted QofNW providing extra sailings on route 2 in the summer/fall of 1991. Never got a chance to go on her that summer.

Here are my newest photos of the Queen of New Westminster. These are from Oct.15, 2010 when she was a relief vessel on Route-30. Arriving at Duke Point at 7:15am, right around sunrise: Here she heads up Northumberland Channel, with Gabriola Island on the right-side. - the always interesting power-slide as she comes around into the berth. --------------- A few on-board photos: - someone is homophonic The variety of passenger licenses A quick glimpse towards the bridge

mr. horn, your evening shots of Q. of Newest, almost make the last surviving V look attractive, especially the lengthened view, very nice. mr.dot.

Of the 5 ships that I took on that day, I think that I found the New Westminster to be the most interesting for ship-riding, although the Bowen Queen has lots of nooks & crannies for a small ship.

Queen of New Westminster approaching Duke Point Terminal, Saturday, Oct 23, 17:10: It was a light load Saturday night, so much so that they loaded all the vehicles on the lower car deck. Here's looking at a very empty upper car deck:

you know I never realized how carnavouris the upper car deck of the new west was reconstructed, it's looks like it has more clearance than many of the first generation car ferries had available! that's going to have to be one of the ferries I will have to check out with this shiny new gold pass! mrdot.

I'm not sure exactly why the Dogwood and Spirit logo switched places right after her lifting. It clearly only lasted maybe a year or two though....most likely the next time she would have went in for refit.

I have a QoNWM photo from Sept 1995 that shows one BC Spirit logo toward the stern, the Dogwood house flag on the funnel and nothing except the ferry's name toward the bow. From my Wett Coast Flickr site.
