Queen of New Westminster arriving at Tsawwassen Terminal - summer 2000. At that time she would have been operating on 'Route 30' - Duke Point to Tsawwassen. photo © Mr. DOT by Wett Coast, on Flickr[/size] A crop from the above photo; note the small vessel in the right background...

I think that what is there, is the same small ferry that you would see around Tsawwassen during the summers 10 + years later.

Looks like either the Saltspring or Vesuvius Queen. I'm with WCK, it's either the Bowen or Mayne, with the emphasis being on the former.

Saturday April 21, 2012 gave a rare photo opportunity for the ferry Queen of New Westminster. She made a round-trip appearance on Route-30's temporary Departure Bay routing, so that she could later stop at Duke Point to test the almost-repaired dock there. So I wanted to photograph her as she entered Departure Bay, did her arrival-spin at the terminal, and when she departed the bay past that lovely point on Newcastle Island. So I made sure I was up on Sugarloaf Mountain beside Departure Bay, to spot the ship as she arrived and departed the bay. - Queen of Oak Bay on her way to Horseshoe Bay, while QNW heads for Departure Bay from Tsawwassen. More photos to come in the next few days.

Various angles of the Departure Bay bound Queen of New Westminster. - I'm on Sugarloaf mountain. April 21, 2012. She's headed for Jesse Island - straight on view, with the upper vehicle deck's centre casing visible. Close crop of previous photo. I like the Spaulding straight-on look.

Thanks for taking those pics, they're great! Probably the last time we'll see the New West service Departure Bay for quite a long time.

I had lots of fun for the hour or so at my photo spot. It really is hard to foresee what kind of incident would require the New West to ever need to use Departure Bay again. (unless Duke Point starts to have regular winter closures). ....more shots still to be posted of her exiting the bay and making the turn for Duke Point.

She could end up using berth 1 for moorage if BCF has her in lay-up any time in the future when Deas is full.

Queen of New Westminster departing berth-3 at Departure Bay, on her 5:45pm sailing on April 21, 2012. - C'Inspiration is sitting idle in berth-1. Shaft Point on Newcastle Island (with the oak trees) is off her bow. Brechin Point on the big island (with the green bulk-fuel tanks) is off her stern. Shaft Point is midships and the Newcastle Channel "float plane approaching: warning light" is shown at the ship's stern. This light starts flashing whenever a float plane is approaching for take-off or landing, warning vessels in the area of that busy channel. Newcastle and Gabriola Islands in the background.

My final set of the Queen of New Westminster, on her journey from Departure Bay to Duke Point, on April 21, 2012. She is out of the bay and ready for a sharp starboard turn to Duke Point, and to avoid that log boom Starting her hard turn I like the green water in her wake. Disappearing behind Newcastle Island

Queen of New Westminster missed half a day's work on Friday May 18, 2012 with a rudder problem. Here she is, testing it out, between 1:30 and 3:30pm, on May 18th, before she returned to service. - off of berths 2 & 3 at Tsawwassen. Ready for action, and headed for berth-4 and her 4:00pm sailing. - seen from the Queen of Alberni
