"Known issues - None" ...except for that propeller shaft.

"Most items offered for sale are used and may contain defects not immediately detectable."
That, from the bottom of the report. As in, myriad very serious wear and tear issues, like maybe extensive wasted steel on a fifty year old vessel, and complete non-conformity to many modern structural and operational standards. That's why boats like this only end up getting sold, if not to breakers, to countries like Fiji.

That's why boats like this only end up getting sold, if not to breakers, to countries like Fiji. Both the seller and the auction house affirm that there are no defects immediately detectable. That sounds like a definite 'Trumpism' of 'alternative facts'. As forum members we are privy to some factual information that would keep our bidding paddles under our butts or our fingers off the auctioneer's website unless someone has recently won huge lotto bucks and has conceived a sure-fire after-ferry-life plan for this old girl. There has been some discussion elsewhere on this forum of the possibility that yet another elderly BC Ferry may wind up in the sunny climes of the South Pacific. George Goundar has had relatively good success to date with two of our cast-offs, however I doubt that the impending purchase of his own dry-dock facility signaled his intention of operating a long-term care hospice for the dear old Queen of Burnaby.

hmm i wonder who bought her? I think if Goundar bought any ferry he'd be more interested in the Queen of Nanaimo as she is in much better shape than the Burnaby.

I am looking to recruit crew to help me sail her to her new home in Clio Bay. That sailing will be a 'go' in approximately 45 days. Please send me your applications.

The starting price was $ 400,000. Wonder what happened to the 5% and 7% gst/pst plus the 5% buyer's premium? Any news on who the buyer was and what the plan is for the old girl?

Like every purchase, perhaps save alcohol and a few other things, tax isn't included in the listed price. Presumably you've never bought from the Government like this but you certainly do pay all the taxes.

What I was getting at Dane was that the bottom line price must have been well north of the reported selling price. I agree with you that there is no escaping paying governments their duly imposed taxes. Just one of the two things we mortals never escape.

The total amount paid was $497,250, which includes the two taxes and the buyers premium (whatever that is). If you are wondering what happened to the GST and PST, it will get remitted by the auction company or the seller to the governments, on their next GST and PST return.

I am not sure how accurate the information is but a Master on the Queen of Nanaimo suggested that the Burnaby may be headed to Cuba in her next life.
Just speculation perhaps...

A Cuba to Florida service? Perhaps?? She might be a good platform to watch the Florida summer lightning storms. Just don't rename her QUEEN OF ALLIGATORS! QUEEN OF HAVANA might be a good name.

Queen of Burnaby at 6:10am. - I took this sailing, but I waited until vehicles had loaded before I walked on. The dawn light was getting great, and so I wanted to take this one last shot before loading. Part of my February 25, 2017 farewell morning with the 'Burnaby. More to come, as I process the images, memories and video. DSC09379 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

Abstract Burnaby: Here's a 30-minute star trails shot, but I had to do some extreme tinting of the ship because of the ship-lights and the nearby parking lot light pollution. - This is not the star-trails shot that I was hoping for. To get that, I'd need a dark ship and a dark neighbourhood. DSC09374aaa by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr Returning to pastel blue, just for fun. DSC00720 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr ------------- The shape off her stern that looks like a stern-wheel is just the light beams from the light at the end of the dolphin.
