Great photos!! Thanks Jim and David. Looking a little closer at the Queen of Alberni, looks like the Main Car deck doors have been widened since that pic was taken? It even looks a bit smaller than the other C-Class main deck doors. On a side note, didn't the Alberni start off with no doors after the lifting? On another side note, has anyone seen this picture before? Found it on Google...and very well enhanced.  |

As Promised I've uploaded photos from over week ago aboard the Queen of Burnaby. Welcome Aboard the Newly Upgraded Queen of Burnaby...
Exterior wise there were not many Differences, You might notice the vents for the new car deck ventilation though
But right off the Bat you see some Differences on the Car Deck, Notice the New "Slow" Signs
Another obvious Difference was the New Car Deck Ventilation System
Now we Proceed to the Cafeteria with the Gift Shop/News-Stand Behind the New Cashier Desk
Then to the Original Mid-Ship Section
And an Obvious Difference here was the New Chief Steward Office
As Well as a New Kidz Zone Replacing the Video Arcade Machines.
Inside the Kidz Zone, There was a new LCD TV Hypnotizing Kids with Kid programs such as the Teletubbies, as well, the Traditional Plastic Kid Boats were Moved from their Original Spot in the Added Later Mid-Ship Lounge
There was one familiar vacuum though
Before Moving onto the Added Later Mid-Ship Lounge, there was some new Tables like ones on other ships in the Coast Cafe Express
Now, Let's just look back
Now Proceed to the Added Later Mid-Ship
But, we'll take a quick walk over to the Forward Lounge Now
The Only Vending Machines on the Ferry Now are in the Forward Lounge
But Quickly Now, Back to the Added Later Mid-Ship Lounge
But the Added Later Mid-Ship Lounge is just Seats Seats Seats so we'll go down the hall back to the original Mid-Ship
But I bet your wondering, what happened to the Upper Deck Lounges?
Well...No Change, one of the windows is missing though in the Rear Lounge so I took a picture inside
But what ship tour would be complete without finding out there is a new "Welcome Aboard" Sign?
So this Concludes the New Queen of Burnaby, So next time you take a trip aboard the Queen of Burnaby, you'll see some obvious differences but not all of it is different from the last time you sailed aboard her a few weeks, months, or years ago.

Great video!  I always enjoy seeing the entire ship and not just the exterior views. Her horn sounded a little strange to me, is it broken or I am thinking of another horn. Liked the time-out part too ;D. |

I have a photo of the QoOB taken on May 17th, 2003 (Saturday of the Victoria Day weekend, that year). She was working route 2, opposite to the Cowichan, and had not yet been graced with the slugs. The QoVan was also working route 2 that weekend, I gather because the Coquitlam was unavailable. The Coquitlam was just possibly having its mid life upgrade at that time. I also have pictures from the same trip showing the Q of Esquimalt working route 3, perhaps as an extra, or maybe as the main boat replacing the Surrey after the fire.

In August of 1994 I took a trip from Victoria to Seattle and back on the "Royal Victorian" I know this thread is for "BC Ferry" photos but she was the Queen of Burnaby before, she's the Queen of Burnaby now, and to be honest I considered her to be the Queen of Burnaby (albeit in disguise) when I travelled on her. 2 views of the foot passenger loading ramp at Ogden Point:   sundeck:  forward lounge:   midship lounge with cappuccino bar:   aft lounge with duty free shop:   cafeteria, which was operated buffet-style:  tourist info area, located on one side of the sundeck where the crew mess used to be...the same place the Saanich had her computer work stations:  aft sundeck licensed lounge (no one under 21 years of age allowed). Snacks and appetizers were served and arrived from the main deck galley.  |

Nice to see just how posh one of the original nine could be all dressed up. Eat your hearts out, route 17 patrons.

wow, awesome photos. I havent seen photos yet from her days as the Royal Victorian. I travelled on her when she was the Princess Margurite to Seattle and she was pretty much the same and to me still looked like a BC Ferry. I thought the Duty Free was the mid ship upper lounge area or at least I think it was on the PM.

Excellent photos. I like the potted plants. They make her seem a little softer around the edges. I wish the cafeteria still operated as a buffet . |

As the Margueritte, there also was the glassed in "Beer Garden" on the top deck behind the wheelhouse that was dismantled during one of the refits after returning to BCFerries. Would have been cool to keep as an observation area.

Great pics! I would venture to say that the Burnaby looked better as the Victorian than it does now post-Coastalization. When I compare the condition of the Burnaby pre-Coastalization to those pictures, it's night and day. It seems as though BCF beat her up a bit before returning her to service!

I always wondered what the interior of the Burnaby looked like as the Royal Victorian. Did you get any overall exterior shots other than the deck shots you have posted?

Unfortunately I don't have any other exterior shots. I think I was so blown away by the changes to the interior it didn't occur to me to take more photographs outside.  I thought the Duty Free was the mid ship upper lounge area or at least I think it was on the PM. Yes, the duty free shop was enlarged and re-located to the upper deck midships for when she entered service as the Princess Marguerite III. |

Anyone remember the BCF scenes from "Bird on a Wire" with Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn? After some research, I found this scene. It starts off in Tsawwassen which is said to be a "Great Lakes" ferry. Obviously it's a B-Class ferry, and I'm nearly thinking it's the Queen of Burnaby. Not as intense as the scenes in "Shoot to Kill", but there's at least a couple of horn soundings. Re: "Shoot to Kill". It's too bad that youtube version doesn't have the entire scene posted. It's a fairly entertaining car chase which originates in Downtown Vancouver, and they drive towards Canada Place to the docks, which of course ends up being Tsawwassen terminal. At that point, the ramp had been lifted, and the Queen of Vancouver was already starting to head astern out of the dock. The car busts through the gates, and races up and over the ramp, landing on the main car deck, stunning all of the deckhands. Then it leads up to the scenes you see on youtube after that. |

Eat your hearts out, route 17 patrons. Thanks for posting those photos of the Burnaby/Royal Victorian; neat to see those changes for the Seattle run. I travelled the Burnaby on the Comox run in 2001/02 alot (late 01 to early 02) and I remember seeing a few things on it that carried over from the SEA days. These included: The metal/Iron chairs - they were in the area that contains the gift shop on most of the V's (section next to Cafeteria); I also remember the funny looking area behind the wheel house; from the outside you could look up and tried to figure out what it was - as they had removed all the glass from it so it was just a white metal frame on top - looked strange. It's neat to see those pics in this post later on, of the COHO, that's exactly the idea albeit from the stern of the ship of what I was saying about how it is a good photographic shot to see the large ships coming into Vic Harbour. |

I was on the QoB on thursday, and I saw some very dark tinted glass windows on the outside deck. Being the curious fellow that I am, I decided to see what was beyond them. I couldn't see through properly with my eyes, so i tried to take some photos with my camera. What I saw astonished me. There was an entire passenger lounge, just sitting there empty, unused. I tried to get in, checking all doors from both the outdoor deck and from the main passenger deck, both to no avail. Though the rest of the Burnaby is Coastalized, this area is not. So now I turn to all of you to answer my questions. What happened to the upper interior passenger lounge? Why is it like this? When did this happen? here is my photographic evidence to work off of:     The balls in your court guys! |
