Queen of Cowichan -- no, not 40 years ago, but just a few hours ago. She is still going strong... She is seen here just underway from Departure Bay terminal with the (20 minutes late) 14:10 'extra' sailing for the mainland - 19 June 2016. My car was the second to last vehicle to be loaded on the upper car deck of the Coastal Renaissance for the 12:50 sailing from Horseshoe Bay. As such the car and I were handily located at the tail end of the CR and able to catch this view while keeping a careful eye on when to jump back into the car because my lane was being discharged ... How does a vessel get to be 20 minutes late for its first sailing of the day? © WCK-JST by Jim Thorne, on Flickr

I just moments ago watched the Cow Dock in Departure Bay, unload, and leave empty. Where did she go?

I just moments ago watched the Cow Dock in Departure Bay, unload, and leave empty. Where did she go? Looks like she deadheaded back to Horseshoe Bay to do a 21:00 sailing which is almost full. The 21:30 is looking like it will be near empty

Queen of Cowichan has now come out of hiding at Dease dock today and is now in berth 3 Departure Bay. She arrived at her home port this afternoon. She was ahead of the in service Coquitlam when in bound from Entrance Island Just after 2pm.

Whats with the Cowichan been #2 Ship over XMass? Normally in this case Coquitlam would be #2 and the Cowichan #1

Passing Queen of Cowichan yesterday afternoon while on the Queen of Oak Bay inbound to Hoseshoe Bay. We passed very late in the voyage at 2:10 pm due to the fact that the Cowichan had to return to HB due to a Medical Emergency. We passed between Passage Island and Snug Cove.
Please forgive Quality of Video as I currently do not have a decent camera.

Re the bottom looks like she is heading south of Snake Island..Again.

Queen of Cowichan ready for departure from berth 3 @ Departure Bay terminal, Nanaimo - 31 July 2017. This was shot from the incoming Queen of Oak Bay, which was running about a half hour behind her sister. © WCK-JST by Jim Thorne, on Flickr

Queen of Cowichan head on view, ready for departure from berth 3 @ Departure Bay terminal, Nanaimo - 31 July 2017. Of the five C class vessels, the Cowichan is probably my favourite. The second generation C class are not as attractive IMHO due to their elongated passenger cabins. The Alberni is (again IMHO) a bit of a dog's breakfast due to her horrid history of disfiguration resulting from the upper car deck being added, and various messing around with the passenger levels over the years. She did look quite sleek as built, however, the 'sports car' variation of the C class ... Then there is the Coquitlam. It would rate as highly in my mind as the Cowichan had it been receiving the same TLC its sister has had over the years, especially from the Nanaimo crews who own the Cowichan. Having said all of this though, 'head on' shots of C class vessels don't really flatter them. They look sort of blunt! © WCK-JST by Jim Thorne, on Flickr

With no 1900 from DPB and 2100 sailing from HSB this evening, the Cowichan sailed direct to Tsawwassen for an MD sailing to provide a boost in overheight capacity.
Perhaps we'll see this again next week?

Coquitlam arrived around 22:10 at TSW and Cowichan departed at 22:20 so a quick meetup. It would have been cool sight to see both in berth at TSW.

Neat video of the Cow getting all Christmas-y! 🎄 Traveled on the QUEEN OF COWICHAN last night and enjoyed the solarium for part of the trip. You can kind of see in the video that there's a plastic wall/curtain covering the open end, enclosing the solarium except for the one side door. There are Christmas lights strung up along the inside and there are heaters on the ceiling creating quite a nice area - fresh air, not too cold, and almost empty - no one else ventured outside. The metal benches now have soft covers and there are some semi-comfortable wooden chairs to sit back in. Not sure if they've done it other years and if it's the same on some of the other ships, but it's quite a nice idea and looks pretty at night. Sorry, no pictures.

Now for another Ferry Whistle. Today, the Queen of Cowichan. Up Next, her Sister Ship... I am sorry but she still sounds like diying cow to me. "Cow"ichan

At least you got to hear the whistle. I was down at Departure Bay on her arrival and departure this afternoon, sadly no horn, very disappointed 😞. However I got to witness the upper deck been loaded at the same time the lower deck was still unloading. I do not think I have seen this much. I am disappointed because it adds to the whole experience to hear the horn. www.flickr.com/groups/2200669@N21/?added=3

Rode on Cowichan last week, then later got a really good pic of her coming into Departure Bay from one of my favourite vantage points: Giovando Lookout on Newcastle Island. Cowichan's looking pretty good these days.
