Some pictures of the Oaky, taken on June 28th, 2010: I'm getting kind of bored of taking so many photos of the ferries that look exactly the same, so I've decided to lean towards less-seen angles of the ships now... Approaching Horseshoe Bay Her Zodiac Lifering Loudspeakers more liferings:

I Got the perfect opportunity to catch the Oak Bay's arrival into Berth 3 at HB from the Picklefork of the Queen of Cowichan on Sept 3, 2010. What is so cool, is I am so close to the ship and As the Oak Bay arrives, We depart on the 2:30pm sailing to Departure Bay.

The 'Surrey and 'Obay look so much more distinguished with their visors on. They should've kept them, and just made them more reliable. Maybe change the operating system to the kind they use on the S-twins.

Maybe change the operating system to the kind they use on the S-twins. The nicest looking of all these UCD 'end gates' were the original arches used on the Coquitlam & Cowichan. Apparently they were not very reliable and were removed a year or two after 1976.

I wish had a chance to see those at work. I was still a toddler back then when QofCoquitlam and Cow had them.

Or was the bad part the visor in itself, and the replacement was removing it?

thinking about the original visors on the first double enders way back then, takes me back to the very first BC ferries, the Sidney and Tsawwassen, as built in 1960. At first the had the solid bow rail plateing and looked very good if not practical, as the bridge view became much better when they were modifyed. and the same thing applied on the double enders. mr.dot.

I took 2 sailings on the Oak Bay on 9/21/2010, just because of the timing of my travels on a day-trip to UBC. I tried to find some unique or off-beat photo opportunities. Here's what I found: ---------- I set up at one of the main car-deck windows, to take photos as we left Departure Bay. - here's the view towards the terminal. Here are a couple of pano-stitches from the car decks: - from end of main car deck: - from the gallery-deck ramp, looking back towards the stern-end of the main car deck. --------------- When I explored the upper car-deck, I found the articulating ramp and thought of Luke. So here are a few photos of this interesting feature to the C-Class ferries. - the articulating ramp is on the inside lane. ---------------- From the walkway below the bridge: - looking down at the coin-box Oak Bay arriving at Horseshoe Bay at 7:00pm. A neat spot to watch the forward (or backward) scenery, out of the wind. - this is on the Nanaimo end of the ship. At the other end, there is a crew smoke-pit here instead.

Are they not allowed to park vehicles on top of the ramps?

Are they not allowed to park vehicles on top of the ramps? I know in the past I've seen cars parked on the ramp, once my own. It makes it quite difficult to extricate youself from your vehicle since the guardrails prevent your door from opening very far. Plus if they parked cars on the ramp and needed to use it unexpectedly due to an upper ramp malfunction at the terminal, they may not be able to lower it with cars already on it.

Some more Oakie photos from a summer-like October 1st 2010: ------------ Morning sun as she arrives at 8:00am at Departure Bay: Vehicles parked at the ends of the gallery-deck ramps: Gallery-deck ramp, on the starboard side, as we head to HSB. - this provides a nice view on a nice day. - there are no such windows on the port-side. Funnel and a DHC-2 ....with the Queen of Cowichan in the background. photos from one of Oakie's solariums: ------------ Photos from shore at Snug Cove, Bowen Island:

That's West Van on her port side, so this photo shows her outbound from Horseshoe Bay en route to Nanaimo.

I really like this photo. Well done, sir! Thanks Brandon. You yourself took " The historical photo" of Chetzemoka, so far, earlier today. As for my "Oakie in the morning sun" photo, I had my light-setting left on as "fluorescent indoor" by mistake. I guess it was ok.... ;D

Add a curves layer. Use the white point eyedropper to set the white point to the brightest, whitest, part of the image. Use the gray point eyedropper on any part of the image that should be a 50% gray. Some trial and error may be required on the gray point but it's almost always possible to get passable results.

Thanks Mr. Eye. - I use Google Picasa, because I don't have Photoshop, and because it's what I'm familiar with. There's likely a similar fix in Picasa, and I'll eventually get there. I'm taking it "one new tip at a time", and I thank you for yours. Much appreciated. ps: I was in your Howe Sound neighbourhood on Friday, and it was sure a spectacular weather day. A great day for photography.
