I wonder what the Alberni costs BC Ferries every year in maintenance above and beyond what may be anticipated? There was a ton of cancellations throughout 2022, and that's not new for this ship. Perhaps the poster child ferry of why sustained and timely investment in capital infrastructure replacement is important.
I'm far too lazy to read back on the all service notice type posts, but I am pretty confident, excluding crew issues, that more than 5% of Alberni sailings were cancelled this year.

What route will Queen of Alberni server in summer season?

What route will Queen of Alberni server in summer season? Good question. My friend who up until last week worked for the ferries (he retired) told me there's quite a bit of discussion about that right now. They apparently would like some extra sailings on route 30 so the Alberni might do those, but it would have to be based out of Departure Bay and moved empty between there and Duke Point at the start and end of service since there's no extra berth at Duke. But then what about extra sailings on route 2? One might say the Coquitlam as the extra ship at Langdale is underutilized in the summer, being in service only part days 5 days per week. Could it do Langdale-HSB-DB-HSB-Langdale trips of some kind? Or might the Alberni do extra sailings on both routes 2 and 30? And of course they need enough crew to operate the extra sailings no matter where the ships are deployed. There's lots for us to speculate about in the upcoming months while the crewing and schedule planning departments are hard at work. It'll be interesting to see what transpires.

What route will Queen of Alberni server in summer season? I heard that Route 2 is mostly likely only gonna be having 8 sailings per day this summer, using only the Oak Bay and Cowichan. Langdale (Route 3) would still be the same kind of situation as previous summer years. Surrey and Coquitlam (8-12 Sailings) Essentially Route 30 (Duke Point-Tsawwassen) will be getting the extra boat and 3 extra sailings. While Route 2 (Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay) won't have the extra 3 round trips it gets in the summer. No 07:20 DEP 12:25 DEP 17:00 DEP 21:30 DEP (Sunday) 10:00 HSB 14:45 HSB 19:20 HSB 23:40 HSB (Sunday)

Is BC Ferries trying to make route 30 main route to Nanaimo? If this case they need to work with BC Transit to establish transit service to Duke Point.

How will the scheduling work with Duke point only having 1 berth? I would hope B.C. ferries will get some bus service to downtown Nanaimo.

I was under the impression that the 5-day per week extra Langdale sailings would be converted into full time sailings this coming summer - not sure how that factors in which vessel will be available to supplement that though.

BC Ferries hasn’t decided what Nanaimo to Metro Vancouver will get additional sailings from Queen of Alberni due neither route 2 or route 30 having additional sailings added to summer schedule yet.
