Are you ready for something awesome? Here are some photos, again from 1981, of the first time I ever travelled on the Queen of Alberni. It was the first season the Alberni was in operation on route 2 having just been moved up from route 1 when the newly lifted Queens of Vancouver and Victoria re-entered service. Since they had much increased overheight capabilities, the Alberni was deemed more useful to relieve heavy overheight traffic on route 2.Alberni arriving at Departure Bay berth 2: walking on the main (and only) cardeck: 2 views of one of the side lounges: pulling away form berth 2: 2 views of one of the end lounges: en route to Horseshoe Bay:

The Alberni used berth 5, even though berth 3 appeared to be available.

The Al Bundy doing zig zags across the Strait during her 7:45am sailing to Tsawwassen on January 23rd. Actually, just a huge log was in the way, so they spun the wheel hard over to avoid hitting it. The sudden turn definitely made people look out the windows to see what was going on.

Thanks for the escalator pictures, Ship-Rider16. Even though the MLU's were badly needed for the C-class, sometimes I wish I could turn the clock back, even for a day, and experience the ships the way they used to be.

Did BCF have a good, legitimate reason to remove the QoAlberni's solarium, or was it just another of those "Lets chop this off because we like chopping things!!!" that BC Ferries likes to do? By doing that, they removed more of the already few passenger amenities that the 'Alberni has to show off.

these two pics. of Alberni in her oringnal truck ferry form are great postcard views, my brother(wettcoast) has two or more great shots I snapped in my swartz bay working days showing her leaving there and docked beside the first queen of surrey(stena danica) in those bygone years. mr.dot.

The Queen of Alberni is such a beautiful thing, that a viewer's eyes are immediately drawn to it, such as in this picture, where she is approaching from the south: Route-30's 5:15am sailing provides these scenes at this time of year. I did this on August 26, 2010. More photos of a passing Queen of Alberni at around 6:15am. ---------------- And Al Bundy's pickle-forks, looking back towards Tsawwassen:

Flug, that is one absolutely stunning picture. You may have just taken my new favourite. The Queen of Alberni is such a beautiful thing, that a viewer's eyes are immediately drawn to it, such as in this picture, where she is approaching from the south:

Thanks for the kind words about the sunrise pictures. Those scenes makes getting out of bed at 4:00am worthwhile. Although I don't think I'd do that every day !
It's nice to live so close to such amazing scenery, and to be able to capture fleeting-moments with my camera.
