Thanks for the kind words about the sunrise pictures. Those scenes makes getting out of bed at 4:00am worthwhile. Although I don't think I'd do that every day ! It's nice to live so close to such amazing scenery, and to be able to capture fleeting-moments with my camera. Your camera skills Flug has been on a very sharp rise, and they were pretty good to start with. You obviously have a good eye for composition or take 100 photos we don't see and only show the best . 4am! That beats me up some mornings and you are three time zones away.

Found an old disk today with pictures taken with my old film camera and scanned. The rest were taken with a first generation digital camera.

I found a bunch of old pictures I took in 1990-91. Here's QoAlberni as the Mid-Island Express around the summer of 1990. My attempt of stiching a picture. ;D Alberni with her new doors in May 1991 in Berth 4 with Berth 5 behind her being rebuilt.

Great photos, Alberni! I didn't know what the Departure Bay berths looked like back then! Would I be correct to state that the last photo is at Tsawwassen?

Thanks, I forgot I took them and found them a couple of months ago. Yes, that is Tsawwassen on board the QofSaanich when she was coming into berth 3.

Photos of 'Alberni near Duke Point, on Sept 17, 2010. I was on Protection Island, so I had a nice close vantage point for the arriving & departing ferry. ------------------------------- 'Alberni heading toward Duke Point, with Gabriola's Descanso Bay in the background: Shortly after blasting her departure horn, the 'Alberni emerges from behind Jack Point, just a couple of minutes after leaving her Duke Point berth: Seen here in Northumberland Channel, the 'Alberni has that listing illusion, caused I think by the starboard aft pickle-fork deck. - also, I usually find that the 'Alberni's black masts "disappear" in my photographs' backgrounds, but here I can actually see them. More of that listing-illusion, as she heads towards Snake Island.

those are neat pics. you have posted of the Q of Alberni as she is today, and I was just vueing a pic. that I took all those years ago in swartz bay that is in my brothers flickr site and the forum thread, that shows the first generation truck ferry alongside the visiting Q. of Surrey, later the Q of the North. Its quite a contrast to todays vessel, still giving good service! mr.dot.

You know what, Mike? I think she really is listing! I covered up that pickle-fork and looked at it again, and there's a definite list. I'm guessing there's a big fuel-tanker truck on-board, or maybe two?

Yeah, I agree. I think she's listing as well. Probably a combination of that, and the fact that they're turning to starboard almost that whole time maybe.

Beautiful pics of the ferry I used to love to hate back in the '80's. I also think she is definitely listing. Before her MLU she used to always list to her starboard side due to the fact the extra washrooms and other facilities along with that narrow corridor were on that side compared with the more open seating lounge on the opposite side.

Some photos from the newly painted Queen of Alberni, taken November 20th, 2010: How long has this Queen of New Westminster zodiac been on the Alberni? NOTE: For full Queen of Alberni fire-escape and deck plans, see my facebook album. They're posted there. Her lower car deck tunnel. Her galley I like how her car deck doors slide open on a track, unlike the other C's.

from an archived post from Sept.2006 done by member Wett Coast: ============ Original 'C' class as first designed with Coat of Arms on side DOT CollectionThe logo seems to have gone out of favour and is not being used anymore. Just as well, I think. BTW, the design of the original C Class vehicle ferries (the Cow & the Coq) was modified, I believe, during construction to accommodate the use of life-saving equipment other than the conventional life boats shown in these models.

The cafeteria end is always the Number 2 end (stern) on the C-Class.
;D
PS: I liked that transition you made on Deck 3 where you focused on a door, then you turned around and you were already at the other end. Nice job.
