Alright, as promised, here are a few more photos from my 17B trip on February 7th. For those of you that already saw the photos on flickr, I re-uploaded (privately) the photos again after adjusting the colors and contrast a little. It turned out to be a wonderful day, albeit cold and crisp. I decided to stay in the warmth of the waiting room, bolting outside for a few photos and stepping inside once again. The temperature was around -10 IIRC. So here we go. The North Island Princess wasn't far behind. The sun hadn't risen yet, but that'll come shortly. Sunrise in Saltery Bay. The IS unloaded a good load of commercial traffic shortly after I took this photo. Underway. You can see the NIP in berth on her morning layover: I was pretty tired, and I almost didn't go outside in Departure Bay to get this photo. But I changed my mind at the last minute, scrambled to get my camera out, and got lucky with this photo. Overall, I was fairly satisfied with my trip. It was nice to be able to do a circle pac in 12 hours without any driving off of the Sunshine Coast. They even had the waffles aboard the Chilliwack, so at least there's a couple hot breakfast items there now. That sailing had three passengers aboard. The Island Sky 08:35 sailing to Departure Bay was about 80% full, but it wasn't too crowded. The cafeteria seating was all taken up though, as people were taking a table for sipping their coffee and reading the newspaper and such. That's one thing that would improve the Island Sky, some more cafeteria or snack bar seating. I paid about seven dollars for nuked french toast with ham and (and corn syrup), and I wasn't surprised with the taste. It was a tough decision, as both the Omelette and French Toast looked dry. If they had higher quality syrup available, the entree would be good. Heck, anything with maple syrup tastes good.

Island Sky was a quiet ship on her final 5:40am trip on Route-17A from Comox to Saltery Bay; March 9, 2014. - we enjoyed free coffee while we waited a few minutes for a late crew member to arrive. (we actually left only 1 or 2 minutes late, but the crew had thought it might take a bit longer - hence the free java) Traffic load was 2 or 3 cars and maybe 5 passengers. ------------ 6:40am and we're in Malaspina Strait. I'm on the sundeck playing with HDR time exposures.

...and here's my video of the Island Sky arriving at Little River. - evening of January 13, 2016.
I enjoyed the experience of hearing a ferry's fog horn, before I saw the ship, and then to eventually make out her vague form in the fog. And then to watch the fog roll in to envelop more of the little bay at Little River.
A lovely winter night experience. And I think the video captures most of all that.

Does the Island Sky not look a bit like the new Salish class I love these types of reverse questions. My answer is "Yes" I don't see a resemblance, except maybe on the curves of the superstructure on each side where it meets the ends of the ship. So in that specific regard, my answer would be "No."

Does the Island Sky not look a bit like the new Salish class My understanding is the Island Sky was more or less a prototype for the functionality of a ship that size. I believe they wanted to see how she operates in terms of capacity and on board services on Routes 7 and 17, as a direct replacement for the Queen of Tsawwassen, which had that increased route flexibility. However, in terms of design and aesthetics, I think the Salish class will (hopefully) be significantly different (improved) when compared to the IS.
