Curtis's shot of the two vessels and the low clouds is indeed special. Also much appreciated was Mr Horn's earlier post of the twenty second exposure of the Island Sky's wake. Very nice work, both of you.

I think the Cumberland and Capilano have the roller style black out screens. I think the Spirit ships do too if I am correct?? Yes, and the Coastals have them as well.

where do the Coastala have them?? In the Coastal Cafe and Sitka Lounge, but I've never seen them in use in the Coffee Bar. I guess the lighting is dim enough that it doesn't produce too much glare for the Bridge Crews down below.

The FSG built vessels (Coastal class plus NorEx) have windows with a metallic coating applied. This stops (or at least reduces) outward transmission of light through them. It also stops GPS signals as I found out on the inaugural voyage of the NorEx.
This metallic coating (as I understand it) makes the use of some sort of blackout blinds unnecessary.

Is that the Seaspan Greg I see docked in the background on the right? Seaspan Greg is not in my Island Sky photo (the small white thing in the background is the yacht "Polar Bear.") But you can see Seaspan Greg in this photo of Queen of Cowichan, taken an hour earlier

2 Island Sky shots from this evening at Departure Bay. - 6:35pm. With Queen of Cowichan, arriving at end of her service day (she ends at 6:40pm on most weeknights): - the I'Sky had to delay her departure until Queen of Cowichan arrived and berthed. I wonder if this delay has happened most evenings, because the I'Sky is scheduled to depart at the same time that the 'Cowichan arrives.

WCK sir, thanks for getting that photo for us. Shaft Point is a great place. Lots of kayakers take lessons in that area in the summer, and the flashing warning-light for seaplanes taking off & landing is a necessary beacon.

re Island Sky and rough weather:
There were 50 km/h wind gusts in Georgia Strait today.
- A family member took this morning's sailing and said that they followed a storm course in Georgia Strait, and the outside sundeck and the elevator were closed, because of rough weather.
Actual crossing was not too bumpy.

Island Sky in Malaspina Strait. - see from Douglas Bay, south of Powell River. February 2014 The morning race southbound, with North Island Princess Working her way up the strait, after having entered it near Sillwater Look at the direction of traffic on the car-deck, and compare that to the direction the ship is sailing. - this is the morning northbound sailing that is headed for a stop to take on traffic at Blubber Bay. She did a pivot upon departure from Saltery Bay, so that traffic loaded at Texada Island will be aligned for disembarking at Comox. - photos by Mrs. Horn.
