She will be around for at least another year. PQ and BQ are being retired this spring and the MQ will be the new BQ, the new relief vessel around the fleet. I am pretty sure Queen of Cumberland will be relief because another Salish Class vessel could take over Queen of Cumberland at anytime if need be.

With her deck clearance, she would be great for all of the trucks that keep going back and forth to Bowen Island.

The only logical route she will be place on is Crofton - Vesuvius until the Quinsam becomes available.

She will be around for at least another year. PQ and BQ are being retired this spring and the MQ will be the new BQ, the new relief vessel around the fleet. That is possible, but unlikely because the Mayne Queen's safe operation license from Transport Canada expires this year, meaning she would have to undergo a major or moderate refit to stay in service, and that would be costly. Though the Mayne Queen is in pretty good condition, similar to the MV Queen of Nanaimo's condition in comparison to the MV Queen of Burnaby at the time of retirement.

With all of that being said, all I can hope for is an announcement regarding her date of retirement - I wanna be there! Will definitely be a sad day, but I think it would probably end up being more of a celebration of life than anything else. Can't believe this thread will be moved to the historical ships section shortly

Went on board Mayne Queen to day. Went to the wheel house and talk to the captain. Cumberland Queen It’s supposed to do the number 5A route after retirement Mayne Queen. Some of the crew will be going to be New Salish or Cumberland Queen. And due to Covid restrictions are still being followed on this vessel Limited time on the wheel house and no engine room tour

When will BC Ferries list the Mayne Queen for sale or do they have other plans for her?

When will BC Ferries list the Mayne Queen for sail or do they have other plans for her? BC Ferries has been listing the Mayne Queen as for 'sail' pretty much every day since 1965. I expect they will list it as 'for sale' fairly soon.

Ferry Confusion near Village Bay; an old versus new size comparison ...
The Mayne Queen (1965), and the near-new Salish Raven.
The Mayne Queen has been a regular in the Southern Gulf Islands for more than half a century, But soon, she will be gone, replaced by a much larger vessel, the Salish Heron; the newest of the Salish class, and sister to the Raven shown here.

Sturdies Bay (Galiano Island) BC Ferries terminal with the Mayne Queen coasting into the berth. Way back in the 1960's & 70's, the Mayne Queen used the old berth at Montegue Harbour when calling at Galiano. But for most of the last 4 decades the call (at least twice daily) has been here at Sturdies.

Note: On page 1 of this thread I posted an image of the MQ calling at Montegue back in the 1970's.

So you were aboard the Spirit of Vancouver island? With me running around with my camera, and you doing the same its seems that we would have bumped into each other, but that did not happen.

No, I was at Bellhouse Park on Galiano Island So that explains the low angle of your photo. Did you get photos of the SoVI going by?

Yes, I only have 3 because I was photographing the Mayne Queen but here it is: I was standing in one of those upper car deck windows on the port side below the funnel, I think.

With the latest hiring of 500 Employees for the Summer Crush. If that opens up the Crewing of the New Salish Heron on Route 5, we'll graciously accept the Mayne Queen on Route 4 - Fulford Hrb to Swartz Bay to provide Peak Demand Uplift.
