I still wish that they had some sort of real time satellite tracking attached to this, so you could get an actual visual capture of the ship instead of just a little blue arrow. If she's on the move, I hope it means she's going into service, but why Swarts Bay. (Siitech actually lists her destination as Saltery Bay) "The name is Bond, James Bond"... unfortunately, I don't think many companies could afford the fuel and numerous satellites this would require. No, the name is Bay: Mill Bay ;D

You wouldn't see much if there was a real-time satellite shot of the ship. You'd only see the top deck, and you wouldn't be able to make out which ship she was were it not for the AIS.

Okay so this is weird. It went all the way to swartz bay and now is heading back towards tswwassen. She's taking a really strange route back: out in to Haro Straight. Maybe she's going down to meet the Coho and swap old stories. The Coho is even in Victoria harbour right now. This is probably the first time these two have been so close to each other in a long time.

She'll be heading to the Drydock for a "refit". Hull inspections is what I've heard, for the sale of the ship.

Yup she has almost docked in Esquimault. With SofVI there would be a good pic. Hint hint lol.
The Gimli Glider has just been sent to the Mohave Desert for storage by Air Canada. In a nutshell when the 767 was quite new a fuel gauge was acting up and a couple of maintenance staff had to calculate manually how much fuel was in the aircraft. A number of people were involved so they felt secure and the jet was sent on a cross country trip. It ran out of fuel over Manitoba. The quick thinking pilot aimed the aircraft for the Gimli airport. The story of the landing was quite amazing and you may want to google it.
Long story short there is a world wide moaning about the jet being retired and maybe sent to the desert to be broken up. There is a Youtube of the flyby it did in Montreal when it left. Due to the unique story of this aircraft people around the world would like to see it in a museum somewhere and the museum of aviation in Ottawa may be interested.
There is a parallel to the Tswwassen except that the push for saving it doesn't have the broader appeal.

Any of our Victoria crew able to get down to Admirals Road for some shots? (near Colville Rd) You should be able to get a half decent view of the SoVI which already appears to be in drydock, with the good ol' Tsawwassen lingering behind it. You may also get a CFB ship in the same capture, if I recall that area accurately.

Chris, how could you say that. Now I think I'm gonna cry. Please don't cry, Mill Bay. There's no reason for it (yet). There are people out there who look at her for more than just scrap metal . I'll leave it at that for now, until things are official.

[detour] I'm pretty sure that the pilots involved in the incident later developed an incident plan that is now taught to all commercial pilots. [/detour]

The Queen of Tsawwassen and SOVI are in the drydock as of this morning. I took a quick drive down there to see and the Tsawwassen is behind the SOVI. The SOVI is in the farthest one in and the Tsawwassen is behind her. Driving by the Lagoon you wouldent even know there is anything in there. You can hardly see the little Tsawwassen there. Not any good for photos as you can barely see them.

Good news. She'll be at the drydock until February 8th. From there, I'd assume she'll either head back up to Saltery Bay or Deas. Apparently the Island Sky won't be ready until July, and the crew will still need to be trained by that point. So she'll be providing service up until September now. That means she will replace the Queens of Burnaby and Nanaimo one last time, and will serve one last summer on the Earls Cove to Saltery Bay route.

You know what that means Chris... forum trips, and lots of them! At least a dozen Southern Gulf Islands trips and one or two circlepacs.

That is good news Chris. Maybe there will be a miracle and I will get on her one last time. Logging camp, fishing camp any use will be better than the breakers.

One of the ferries (I don't know which one) in the dry dock has a cracked rudder and it will be repaired.
There is no caisson between the boats, so when the dock is flooded they most likely leave the dock together. What i mean is that they will leave the dock one right after the other.

She could have. I recall hearing she was leaking oil from somewhere too..
But the reason the SOVI went to Esquimalt for emergency drydocking was because they discovered she has cracked hers.

I guess that would be an emergency of a sort.
Do they know what caused the cracked rudder?

Probably one of the many log hits they get almost daily in the routine crossing of the strait. Steel can only handle so much impact from shock loading before it fails, even if the stress doesn't approach the failing strength of the steel. Remember, she is now 15 years old, fast approaching middle age.
