these are from last december. That was when you where having that group trip. If this was from the group trip last december, do you think that might be one of us on the sun deck back there...? I know we were all outside when the Saanich was passing us, but i think we might more likely have been at the bow.

Perhaps this forum should also consider hiring another moderator whose duties are solely to attack the hordes of mis-spelled words, and poorly constructed sentences or just poorly typed ones. I thought we already had one of those...

From the looks of it now, her AIS transponder has already been removed. So we won't be able to track her anymore .

Actually AIS is very recently installed on almost all BC Ferries. ....and the fact that the Q-Tsawwassen is now out-of-service means that it's plausible that her AIS might have been removed during the past few days. She is "no longer in service"...or at least that's what I've heard on this board. (except for the guy who said she'd be subbing for the 'Burnaby soon )

I suppose, in this case, i may be a little too familiar with MSN lingo, because I actually understood that part, and I just unconsciously filled in the missing subject without realizing. For those wanting clarification on what was not "easy to read" in that post (since modified by the writer in the original thread, after some feedback from other members), it's the part at the end re "...I met most of you make your way back..." where there seems to be a topic change between the words "you" and "make" which could be interpreted a few different ways but would most likely result in head-scratching. And there's no need to be that confusing. And the trend of posts like this is really what caused this ban. ....just in case you're wondering why.

Yet the Princess Jacqueline has kept her's going for how long?...Under her former name. Different circumstances though - the PJ is staying a ferry for the short term, being SAILED to her new assignment (or at least that is the plan, if she ever leaves for Cambodia). However, the QoT is scheduled to be converted into a NON-self propelled barge (which doesn't need an AIS transpo anymore!). That's if they've removed it already.

Northern Exploration mentioned the possibility of preserving the ' Tsawwassen, in another thread. I thought I'd reply to it here... It would seem pretty strange, after letting all the old CP and Union Steamships boats go, if someone thought the ' Tsawwassen was worthy of preservation, and saved it. We've lost boats that were much more finely appointed, and some, like the Princess Kathleen, with her wartime service, that had real history attached to them. No one would ever walk through the interior of the ' Tsawwassen thinking, "Boy this is nice, I wonder who designed it?". Compared to the character ships that preceded her, she was simply an efficient, very plain car ferry. Many people got very attached to some of the old steamships; I don't think that has happened so much with our more modern ferries (aside from us ferry fans, of course). The ' Tsawwassen has served us very well, and people are sorry to see her retire, but there is little reason for anyone to want to preserve her, given her utilitarian nature, and especially given the more worthy candidates we already let go. She was built here, she sailed dependably for 48 years, and everyone respects her service. But any restaurateur presented with a suggestion to get involved with a conversion effort might take a quick look at the Kalakala and put his money into new cutlery instead.

But any restaurateur presented with a suggestion to get involved with a conversion effort might take a quick look at the Kalakala and put his money into new cutlery instead. I really wonder if any of the regular passengers on the coastal steamships ever walked through dining rooms and corridors and seriously wondered who designed them. Unfortunately, for the Kathleen, her fate precluded any possibilities of preservation, but the fate of her sister Princess Marguerite is a telling tale, as she passed from one owner-operator to the next, each one selling out on her once she couldn't make them any more money. Although she was able to capture tourist dollars for a few seasons, when it comes right down to it, maybe the Marguerite was similarly just a plain old coastal steamer that nobody but engineers and aficionados could see the beauty in. When it comes to preservations, the Tsawwassen is in the same category, because anyone who potentially will buy her and use her for whatever purpose will always ask themselves first of all, what's in it for me? If they eventually realize that there is nothing in it for them, then it doesn't matter how historic or how beautiful a thing is, it will not be able to survive once no one sees any value in it.

Does anyone have the license numbers for the Tsawwassen.
Eg A License = X passengers, Y staff.
I'd appreciate it!

Don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere, but with Tsawwassen gone, what will the relief/refit deployments be when Burnaby and Nanaimo are drydocked??
I imagine Burnaby covering Nanaimo, Chilly subbing for Burnaby, then either Cumberland, Capilano or PRQ on route 4 with Bowen taking the place of the selected vessel. Any one have information, or at least better ideas?

Simple. The Island Sky will sub for those vessels.

Will be funny if the Chilliwack ends up subbing for the Burnaby on the PR-Comox Route, I wonder if she fits into the docks...meanwhile subbing for the Nanaimo on the Tsawwassen-SGI route isn't gonna be easy either.
Situations like this make you think that it's too bad they lifted the New West. [what_if] They could've held onto the Queen of Victoria a little longer and they could've been delivering the Coastal Experience right now. [/what_if]

The Island Sky will not be the replacement during refits. During the winter, there's no way she'd be allowed across the Strait with her open car deck. I've heard numerous times from various workers, that the Nanaimo would be brought up to replace the Burnaby. There would need to be some serious dredging at Little River, in order for the Chilliwacks RADs to clear the ground. On the other side of the coin, I still haven't heard about what would replace the Nanny on Route 9. I'd assume the Chilliwack would be used on Route 9, despite her being slower and smaller.

The Chilliwack used to be on the Gulf Islands route so that would make sense.
