I heard that in the explorer, the roof is leaking and mould and damage is setting in on the passenger deck.
But otherwise it is still being taken care of inside. Oil changes, cathodic protection etc.

Thanks Flugel. Informative article. Interesting to see his spin on events. Maybe he works for CNN. Is he related to Michael Moore or perhaps Oliver Stone. ;D

I recently visited a friend (on August 4th) who literally lives one block from WMG <CFI> & pacificats...the yacht in picture still seems to be there along with (from my vantage point) one Pacificat...does any one know where the others are i looked around but maybe i just wasn't able to find a vantage point to see more...there also seemed to be some activity around the WMG <CFI> building at end and beginning of day...could be for the ship they have on the west side of the building...can't see what it is as only the bridge and cranes working around it could be seen. probably a commercial ship of some kind. ________________________________ So does enay one know where the other two pacificats are at

Thanks for that CFI site, Kam. I regret that I never ever sailed on a PacifiCat. If I was "Mr. Horn" back in the late 1990's, then I would have likely done a few footie trips on each ship, to experience the ride. But no, I did not transform into "Mr. Horn - ferry traveler" until 2004, and so I missed out. It does seem like an unusual gap in my ferry experience, because I've been on the Coast all my life, and I've sailed on all types of BC Ferries for almost 40 years (and a couple of years of CP Princess of Vancouver too), but I somehow never sailed on a PacifiCat. Pity. There goes my ferry-credibility..... ;D

Me too! I never did take a trip on one of these so I will never know if the ride was as bad as some have maintained. One Christmas around about 1999 I was traveling with my son from Vancouver to Victoria to visit my parents. I chose to take the long way via route 2 just so I could get on a fast cat. I got to HSB terminal well timed to get on the Pacificat Explorer? only to find that they had pulled it in favour of a C class. It being a few days before Christmas they needed to extra capacity so they pulled the 'Cat'. At any rate I was 'disappointed' , got my money back and drove to Tsawwassen to go direct. And with that went the only ride I never had on a 'Fast Cat'. I consider those who did get a ride to have been lucky. Then again, those who got two rides may have been unlucky. Any one who rode all three vessels is one of a kind!

I came close in August 1999. We were on our way home from a mainland vacation (which included Q-Chilliwack on Route-40 to Bella Coola, and then up the hill....but that's another story). We arrived at HorseshoeBay, by way of Duffy Lake Road, from the Cariboo, and as luck had it, we got a C-Class home to Nanaimo. On the way across the strait, a PacifiCat was coming the other way. Here are some pictures that I took of it, as it approached us and passed by:

A few months ago we got a call from "surveyors" wondering what people though of the Pacificats. Does this mean that WMG is looking at running the Pacificats in the near future?

Someone (who will remain nameless) on the tour of the Sidney informed me of the rumour about a good posibility of WMG running the PacCats to and from BCF terminals.

Nameless or whatever theyre tried to recruit former Fast Cat staff from BCF, already applied to the ferry commisioner for terminal time although that lapsed as they didn't get there stuff together.

Nameless only because of his background; I'm not sure if it was meant to be said in confidence or not.

Well, the Pacificats apparently all have new main engines... So, expect to see them near a Seaspan terminal near you if things go WMG's way . More information is here

Whoa! I knew I had been out of the loop for a while recently, but I had no idea there was another BCF discussion board... So now I have to wade through *THREE* sites?!? Two of them being seemingly *Identical*!
Could someone *Please* explain why this fracture happened, and what the *heck* is the difference between these two sites?!?
I mean, for goodness sake, they're both using the *Same Host*!!

The other forum was created when there was some spam issues on this forum awhile back. Thankfully, the spam has now disappeared here on this forum.

Agreed... We don't want to start more bickering on that topic ...

I do not think we need to go into the bickering at all period.

oh, well, I would like to record the Horns of those prowlers. When I went on the Pacificat Discovery, I was dissappointed with the horn, as it was just like a Spirit horn just a plain deep "booooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

Well if bickering is what created that other board, then I don't want any part of it.
I would simply make myself forget that it exists, if it weren't for the fact that there might be relavent info on it that isn't here, hence the qote that got me going in the first place:
"Well, the Pacificats apparently all have new main engines... So, expect to see them near a Seaspan terminal near you if things go WMG's way . More information is here"
Could someone tell me, honestly, if there's enough info over there that can't be found here that I should make that other site part of my routine? My worry is that people with inside information will or have moved over there, leaving myself in the dark if I don't routinely check the other board.

The sound you just heard was me, as I was biting my tongue.
Grahame: Over the past month or so since the "new" board has existed, I've found that all cutting-edge info has still appeared on this here "old" board. So no worries that you are missing out on vital information.
You're only missing some photo-quizzes and some other trivia, in my opinion. That's not to say there are no other posts on the "new" board, but the content is likely similar to this board here.
Scott seems to be the main poster on the "new" board, but he also posts here, so again it's similar info on both boards.
So what is the reason why there are 2 board, that are almost identical: Well consider this: Why was the WHA created in 1972 to compete with the NHL? Why did CITY-TV enter the TV-market to compete with Global? Why are there 3 Federal opposition-parties?
Same reason as with these boards: Different ideas on how to better offer a similar product.

Flugel,
Thanx for the tip. I took a quick tour of the other board, and agree that there seems to not be much difference to the info found here; its lack of posters and posts is the final straw to me.
I will disregard its existance in order to help bolster support for this board; after all, almost all the best posters (i.e. people who have a genuine interest, give accurate info, and don't see this as a forum for bickering), like yourself, engineer, cascade, Karl, etc. are here most of the time, if not exclusively, anyway.

people who have a genuine interest, give accurate info, and don't see this as a forum for bickering. Graham, No one said this forum is only for bickering... The bickering was created when spammers would post on this board, then everyone would go on a rant about how it was Biff and his other immature friends... At that time it seemed like it was going to go on forever, thus the other forum was setup to be free of that. However, this forum has rebounded back to the way it once was... This forum is a wonderful tool for sharing our passion for ferries. Hopefully it will continue this way well into the future.
