Just bought a SSD, love it. Does any one else here run the same?

I've been running an Intel 520 SSD on my HP Elitebook for over a year. Other than a reduction in capacity, it blows a HDD out of the water in every possible way.

My understandings of the advantages/disadvantages of SS drives versus conventional HDD are as follows: - SS drive technology is the same as (or at least very similar to) flash memory, such as what you have in 'thumb drives' & camera memory cards (secure digital, compact flash, etc.) - much more compact; laptops incorporating SSD's will be significantly smaller/slimmer - Significantly more expensive then HDD, especially when compared on the basis of GB/GB - typically laptops with SSD's will have significantly smaller capacity then laptops with conventional HDD's - If a SSD fails the probability of data recovery is not as high as it is with a conventional HDD. Thinking that my 'understandings' might be off the mark I Googled 'ssd vs hdd' and got a bunch of stuff, including this: www.storagereview.com/ssd_vs_hddand this: www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2404260,00.asp As it stands at present you are paying quite a premium for the advantages of SS drives. It is predictable, however, that the SSD will eventually render the HDD obsolete. I gather that tablet type computers such as the i-Pad only use SS type memory. My next laptop just might be one with a SSD.

My start up time on the new computer is 6 seconds.
So far I have only loaded iTunes and backed up my phone (43 GB) and loaded MS office pro for work. Which seems to not affect the start up, but I am sure apple has their hand in the start up somewhere. As for noise, there is none, unless you use the disc drive.
It is funny, because Apple runs almost everything with them, but never thought about it until this new purchase. Maybe someone (could) can correct me, is the the same type of system in the current phones?
