The Flagship theme for July is The Life You SaveQuite simply, that means photos of the life rings aboard our ferries. The only rule is that the life ring must be prominent in the photo. Any ferry in the world is eligible. Members may submit up to 3 photos. Usual size restrictions apply. For further information, please see our Forum Flagship rules, located here. Nominations will end on Saturday, June 29, at 9:00 PM PDT. Voting will commence shortly thereafter. Make sure that your full-size link works. Have fun

After nearly losing 931 GB's of photographs due to a HDD failure (...thanks a lot, Western Digital), this one salvaged off that HDD will be my first submission for July. Full-size located here.

Scott, are you not keeping your photos fully backed up? Disk drives can & will fail and if you don't have back ups I have my photos on three separate HDD's, but only one had enough capacity to hold all of them. So, as luck would have it, that's the one that failed. The other two were back-ups, but were incomplete due to their limited capacity. I'm very fortunate that I was able to recover the data before the HDD bricked. The HDD is still under warranty, but I'm leery to put much on its replacement after this experience. That said, I've now ordered a 6TB Synology NAS to become my primary storage device and I'll be keeping at least two external backups of everything just in case. Lesson learned.

One entry: Queen of Burnaby, on Route-9 in October 2010. Hahaha, it looks like the "Queen 'o' Bu Naby" since some of the letters are missing.

We have a wide interpretation of what Kahloke meant by the lifering being "prominently displayed" in the flagship photo.
I'm assuming that Kaholoke is ok with this, but I find it a bit odd re the wide difference between some nominations regarding this interpretation.
What do others think?

I scoured my collection looking for anything of interest that contained life rings that would make an interesting header. To be blunt, my collection is very thin in this area. I am too far away from the ferries to just go for a 'weekend random' and shoot photos with the aim of entering them in this month's 'contest'. My NorAd picture does feature two life rings in it & it is nice & symmetrical .

The two pictures I entered in are heavily cropped (you can tell the first one is quite pixelated) because I never intended them to be pictures of exclusively the liferings. They just so happened to have liferings in them. We definitely do have a wide interpretation of what Kahloke meant by it being "prominently displayed." When I posted the Spokane photo, I wasn't sure if it would be up to snuff but apparently Kahloke thinks it's fine.

Pretty much all of the entries that have been submitted thus far qualify for the contest, with the possible exception of Wett Coast's Queen of Nanaimo pic. The life ring is certainly not prominent in the photo, as it is off to one side and there is a lot more in that picture grabbing your attention. I would say Wett Coast's Northern Adventure pic with the 2 life rings, and Compudude's pic showing 4 of Spokane's life rings, qualify under the "more is better" rule. The life rings themselves may not be super prominent in the photo, but there's a multitude of them, so that works. Wett Coast, if you can crop your Queen of Nanaimo photo so the life ring shows up more prominently, it would make that photo more acceptable for this particular theme
