For August I've tried to think of something that will reflect summer on the water. So our submissions for next month's banners will feature the ferries of the Pacific Northwest sharing the waters with other "recreational" vessels. So this could include a seadoo, kayak, rowboat, sailboat, pleasure craft, or even a cruise ship. Both the ferry and the other vessel should feature prominently enough that we can tell what they are. The ferry portion of the photo can be from either on or off the ship, but enough of the ferry has to be shown so we know it's a ferry that the picture is being taken from. - John H --------------------------------------------- - Limit of 3 submissions per member - Entries will be accepted until 22:00 Tuesday, July 30. - Preferred banner size is 1200 x 340 (pixel size), however we will accept banners down to 1080 x 300. Anything outside these dimensions will not be eligible. - Please post your entries no wider than 1024 pixels, with a link to the larger image. For the complete Forum Flagship Rules: ferriesbc.proboards.com/thread/3510/forum-flagship-rules-information--------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR PHOTOBUCKET USERS: Due to problems last month with Photobucket not allowing the full-sized images, we are requesting that you use another photo hosting site for your flagship entries, at least until Photobucket fixes their "original-size" link.

I will have fun with this category. - I will also jump-in and say that I'm thinking that a photo of a ferry from Horseshoe Bay with the many masts and moored boats of Sewell's Marina included in the photo is probably not what John had in mind. (because that's what you'd see in practically any photo that people take from the waterfront at Horseshoe Bay.) Same for the moored boats at the marina at Quathiaski Cove, Heriot Bay, Westview, etc. ...but that's just my own attempt at interpreting John's gospel, thinking that the "other ship" needs to be in-action somewhere, and not just moored in a marina beside the ferry terminal. What do others think?

There's a photo I'm thinking of, taken in Horseshoe Bay, with several pleasure craft underneath the ferry... Is that acceptable?

Here is one from me. I'll have to take some more images when I go up to a friend's cabin on Lopez Island next week. This is the Kitsap departing Bremerton, with a sailboat in the foreground: Full size is here.

That's what I had in mind that the boat has to be "in-action", not moored in a marina. - John H

Wow, seeing that canoe up next to the mighty Coho really gives this photo perspective and shows just how big these ferryboats really are! Great shot.

Panoramio is not meant to be used as a photo-hosting website in the manner that Flickr and Photobucket are. Panoramio's sole purpose and intent is for the purpose of geotagging the locations in which photos are shot, so that they can be used in Google Earth's "Panoramio" layer. I would NOT follow that advice. Secondly, Flickr has discontinued their Pro account offerings and are now allowing all users 1 TERABYTE of free storage space - including the ability to share all photos up to and including their original resolutions.

There is imgur, which reddit uses extensively. You might want to try that.

Well, I guess flickr is fine then. I just thought the reason why it let me view my pictures at full-res was because I had them under a CC license. BTW, you aren't required to geotag the photos you post on Panoramio. It's not like it's bad or anything; if you think about it, Panoramio is technically a photo-hosting site.

BTW, you aren't required to geotag the photos you post on Panoramio. It's not like it's bad or anything; if you think about it, Panoramio is technically a photo-hosting site. Yes, it is a photo sharing website, but the goal of Panoramio according to its founders - which continues to be the same after Google purchased it in 2007 - is to allow Google Earth users to learn more about a given area by viewing the photos that other users have taken at that place. Note the compass rose in the Panoramio logo. Technically, the impetus of Panoramio's existence is to be a geolocation-oriented photo sharing website. It wasn't designed to - or intended to - be a standard photo sharing site like Flickr, imgur, etc. As for Flickr, a CC license wouldn't have anything to do with you being able to view your own photos. I have been a Flickr user since 2006 and bought my first Pro membership three years ago. Only Pro users were able to view their photos at original resolution - non-pro users weren't able to. I have at least a half dozen photos on my Flickr stream set to a CC/BY SA license due to the fact that the same photos appear on Wikipedia. Either way.... Back to the submissions!
