Now that April one-eth is over, I guess I can introduce the REAL theme for May. For those of you who didn't see it, this was my April Fool's joke for yesterday:
OK, everyone. The next Flagship theme is "Fairies". Yes, you read right, Fairies! Actual fairies in myth and stories.
There's quite a few famous fairies to choose from:
- Tinkerbell from Peter Pan is the most famous
- The Sugar Plum Fairy from Nutcracker
- Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty
- Blue Fairy from Pinocchio
- the Tooth Fairy
- and, of course, the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella
I'm sure there are more out there, but this is a good list to start with, so go ahead and choose your favourite Fairy for May, and we'll vote on them at the end of the month! Have fun with this one!
The real theme for May 2015 is called The Little Ferries. It's kind of a reprise of one I did several years ago called "The Little Ferry That Could". In essence, I am looking for smaller ferries operated by companies or agencies that are not BC Ferries, WSF, or AMHS. I am bringing this theme back because in the time that has passed since I did the last one, we've had some new ferries added to the various minor operator fleets, and we have some new contributors, too.
Here are the rules:
1. The vessel cannot come from the fleets of WSF, BC Ferries, Blackball, or AMHS
2. Passenger ferries ARE accepted this time around, unlike the last time I did this theme
3. I'm looking for ferries that are currently in operation - no historic ferries this time
Given the rules, there are quite a lot of ferries to choose from. Here are some that come to mind:
> IFA Ferries in Alaska
> Ketchikan Airport Ferries
> Digby Island Ferry
> any of the interior Ministry of Highways ferries (it would be nice to see one of the new Upper Arrow Lakes ferry)
> Uchuck III and Frances Barkley would be eligible now that passenger ferries are permitted
> Barnston Island ferry
> I suppose Seabus is eligible since I am accepting passenger vessels
> The Lummi Island Ferry (Whatcom Chief)
> Guemes ferry
> Kitsap Transit passenger only ferries (the ones that go from Port Orchard to Bremerton)
> King County passenger only ferries
> Pierce County Ferries (Christine Anderson & Steilacoom II)
> The Herron Island Ferry (Charlie Wells)
> The Keller Ferry (Sanpoil)
> Puget Island Ferry (the new Oscar B.)
> Buena Vista ferry in Oregon
> CALTRANS Ferries on the Sacramento River Delta
> Bay Area passenger only ferries
I'm sure there are more ferries out there that are eligible, but this list is a pretty good place to start.
