Mr. Cheese is right. There is just one round trip daily at this time of year between Seattle & Victoria. Therefore just one vessel needed. The other two are either laid up or in off-season maintenance. The decision as to which boat is in service may involve matching capacity & operational costs with the demand at this time of year. Are one or two of those boats different in terms of capacity & operating costs (e.g. one seats 120, the others 200 with less crew on the smaller boat)?

OK I stand corrected; I didn't look at the schedule. I was just taking a guess.

Victoria Clipper holds 293 passengers and 5 - 10 attendants for service Victoria Clipper III holds 231 passengers and 4 - 6 attendants for service Victoria Clipper IV holds 330 passengers and 5 - 10 attendants for service Source: www.clippervacations.com/vessel-information/I don't know if attendants is the same as crew or if total crew is more than the numbers mentioned above.

www.clippervacations.com/vessel-information/Okay, I have answered my own question. The Victoria Clipper III is smaller in capacity and takes a smaller crew. I expect they use her in periods of lower demand because operational casts are lower. This is no different than BC Ferries parking the Spirit-class ferries in favour of the Coastal-class at this time of year.

I think they try to use Clipper IV the most! She is the faster one too I think than Clipper 1!

The Clipper IV used to be gas turbine powered, that was done back in the mid-90's. I remember taking her in '97 and she was screaming fast, those engines gave her 10,000HP and she could do 50+ kts, that's what Koastal Karl was likely thinking about. Those turbines were pulled out some time ago when they became cost prohibitive from a fuel perspective. Not sure round about when that happened but it was in '06 or '07'ish.

yeah that's what I was probably thinking. Last time I was on the Clipper was 2010 when we went down to catch a cruise out of Seattle. It looked like she was going pretty fast then.

The Ministry of Transportation has extended the leases for Black Ball and Clipper for the terminals in Victoria Harbour.

Victoria Clipper IV speeds into Juan de Fuca Strait after rounding Ogden Point breakwater, off Victoria - 15 June 2015. Some day I should do a Victoria - Seattle trip on this beast, & then up to Vancouver via Amtrak Cascades. © WCK-JST by JST, on Flickr
Perhaps we should have a separate thread for the Victoria Clipper (Clipper Navigation) as, like the Coho, they are primarily operating across the Canada-USA border, and I believe they have three vessels? I don't think they fit well within this Washington State passenger only thread.

The BC side, or the Washington side. - where are the vessels registered? (ok, it's Nassau). So is the operator a US company or a BC company?

Bump to signify that I have created a separate thread for Victoria Clipper ferries, and moved all posts relating to Clipper into this thread.

VC4 is registered in the Bahamas; VC (1) in Curacao, and VC3 is US-flagged. At least, according to LiveShips AIS.

What became of it? Any photos around of it? Right. VC (3) is the only vessel that will do Seattle-Friday Harbor trips. There was VC (2). I rode on it once, from Friday Harbor (?) to Seattle. IIRC it was very small. Gone by the early 2000s. flic.kr/p/84GgY8
