If ever the old adage: "You snooze, you loose", applied to my viewing of the canal transit of the 'Sun Rise', I must thank 'tak22' for saving my bacon. I had the canal system on open screen ever since the 'Sun Rise' arrived at the Atlantic side of the canal system and watched as tankers, container ships, pleasure craft and other assorted floating vessels transited the system. On the 24th, I realized I had forgotten to pick up a couple of last minute Christmas gifts as well as a birthday card for my sister's birthday which was Dec. 24th. So off I go to finish up and bingo, the 'Sun Rise' sneeks through the entire system! But, thanks to 'tak22' and his able efforts, the pleasure of viewing the transit wasn't lost! Interesting to see that 'Sun Rise' was towed backwards through the lock system, (although I had seen other vessels do likewise), which was done, I think to get a better tow-line onto the barge-end of the ship. The wind patterns along the Pacific coast will not be favourable for the next while until the 'Sun Rise' reaches Northern California where she will again pick up winds and a following sea which should make for a somewhat smoother and speedier trip up to the final destination. Does anyone want to take a guess at the 'Sun Rise's' arrival date and time at Victoria?

My Panama videos of Sun Rise hit CHEK News Facebook today, here's a few comments I got a chuckle from: - If they were built in Canada they'd be here by now.
- They look so small on that Barge!
- And my favourite .... Oh neat, a ship shipping ship shipping ships.
CHEK News tell me they will run the actual videos or portions of during the 5pm and 6pm TV news broadcasts today. Hey Starsteward, sorry to hear you endured days of canal watching and missed out, glad to have 'saved your bacon'. =============================

Checking the progress of the 'M.V. Sun Rise' daily is quite fascinating as we watch the big boat carrier slog its way up the coast of Mexico, not enjoying the benefits of a "following sea". Not surprised at all that the 'Sun Rise' is sticking fairly close as possible to the coastline. Surely the crew on board are looking forward to a spell on dry land when they get to the Port of Los Angeles.

Every time I look at Marine Traffic, it says "vessel is out of range". Haven't been able to track her at all.

One of our members has provided constant coverage at: www.patbaywebcam.com That vessel finder website is awful. Lots of interesting sections on the 'patbaywebcam' site.

Noticed the transit destination is now USSFO no longer Long Beach CA, plugging along into head winds. A contact has told me SeaSpan tugs have been booked for a arrival on the 13th-14th? of January. Will be anchoring on the same points as the aircraft carriers and cable laying ship go. And then under tow to Point Hope one at a time, each ship will be brought in.

Further to this there was an interview by CBC Radio host Liz McArthur who spoke with Captain Jamie Marshall of BC Ferries about the two new hybrid ferries that are on route to Victoria. In the interview Marshall says 'mid January' and there would be an announcement closer to the date to tell people when and where to best view the unloading, suggesting Royal Roads beach as a good spot. You can listen to the 7:35 segment here: www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-48-on-the-island/clip/15753653-new-ferries-for-bc-waters

MV Sun Rise now off the northern Baja peninsula and facing 20kt head winds for the next 24hrs starting in the morning. I'm sure the arrival date will be pushed. Also seeing a frontal system landing off the coast of San Francisco during their bunkering stop, maybe staying in the sheltered bay be best for a day +.

Where will they be off loaded? I heard various options are being examined. Royal Roads anchorages (close to Point Hope Shipyards) and Vancouver harbour have been looked at. No public disclosure yet.

I have been told its going to be tied at Ogden Point on arrival for customs and inspection. Then the next day is off of Royal Roads in the anchoring area, flood and re float, tugged to Point Hope, one at a time. Tugs were booked for two days, one to berth assist at Ogden Point and then 4 tugs the next day to assist into Point Hope. I'm sure with the head winds off the coast of California right now and the Oregon coast, the arrival day will be pushed back. Arrival into SFO is a whole day later than planned. I'll see if I can get an update

Victoria area. The radio interview in the post above from tak22 will have your answer. I enjoyed listening to the interview, hoping to hear even more detail than time (and quality of questions) alloted. SFO arrival scheduled for Saturday 9am. Listed on SFO Pilot Dispatch. Anchorage only for refueling, then out to sea. I will be very interested to see where the Sun Rise goes next after this voyage is complete, notably how far it will deadhead before taking on its next load.

MV Sun Rise is about 2 hrs out from puling into USSFO or San Francisco. 2 hrs later than the latest arrival time planned and 9+ hrs later than was planned when leaving the Baja peninsula. I've noticed she has slowed a lot in the last 5 days, besides head winds, use to be able to maintain 8.5 knots, lately she has only been pulling between 6 and as low as 4.5 steady ahead and even 3.6 nose in to 20+kt head winds 2.3 meter seas. She is in almost flat calm and still doing 6kts.

The SUN RISE was seen on the San Francisco EarthCam this morning:
Normal Mode Subject of interest is at the left side of this image.
Photoshop Retouch
Normal Mode Subject of interest is just east of the STR EUREKA.
Photoshop Retouch
You have a few hours left to see the inbound SUN RISE in motion. Click on "ARCHIVES", then click on the frame "5-6AM". EarthCam keeps the archived images up for at least 23 hours.

Looks like Sun Rise is changing course, maybe heading for shelter from the forecast storm tomorrow? =============================

Looks like Sun Rise is changing course, maybe heading for shelter from the forecast storm tomorrow? ============================= BCF says she is waiting out the storm incoming to the Oregon coast. As other vessels pass her heading north. Watching windy.com, maybe waiting for southerly winds for a quick tail wind arrival.

An interesting course plot for the Sun Rise as she supposedly waits out a storm. She's just north of Gold Beach Oregon and at this time has tracked a very rough figure 8 at .3 of a knot. This is not in sheltered waters but out in international briny.
These two new ferries are lucky as they're getting piggy backed to B.C., but did I not read that the next vessels will be on their own hulls for the voyage from Eastern Europe to B.C. - now that could get interesting.

Moving north again out of the figure 8 holding pattern at 1.3knts now. Very interesting she holds in the middle of a off coast shipping channel, I've watched a few north bound and south bound vessels pass on either side of her like a broken down car at the side of the highway.

If Windy is close to correct, Sun Rise is in the thick of it for another 5 or 6 hours. =============================
