A BNSF train heading northbound at Mukilteo, Washington. That is a very nice shot, Kahloke! Would that train be heading north to Canada, or to Stevens Pass and the east-west BNSF main line?

I think this might be a stinky "Skunk Train" driven by Pepe LePew. ;D This may have come from the landfill at the south part of this state. These may have been empty containers returning to Everett for another load. HOLD YOUR NOSTRILS WHEN THESE TRAINS PASS!

A few more photos from my July 17, 2012 stop at Lake Pend Orielle, in Sandpoint, Idaho. - the rail-funnel town. View from my vantage point: the pedestrian lane of the highway bridge. - rail bridge is visible in the center-background 3 locomotives on a BNSF short train, waiting for the signal to cross the bridge. Crossing the south part of the rail bridge.

Crossing the south part of the rail bridge. Those are great pictures! I've been on that railway bridge several times aboard Amtrak's Empire Builder train. The crossing takes place in the night, though. I sometimes take Train 8 over to Havre and 7 back to Seattle. I try and schedule my trips during a full moon as I can see the moon-lit magic come alive as I skirt along the Kootenai River. I can see some white water and trees on the river sides lit by the moon. This is when sleep time takes a back seat until another time of day on my trips. On one of my return trips, I did see a big lineup of cars on the bridge you were on. Lots of flashing lights coming from emergency vehicles at mid-span as well. Must have been a bad vehicle crash that night.

I like how you plan and do your trips. - I know what you mean about scheduling sleep for "another time of day" on a trip. I've experienced that with early morning trip-fun while on northern BC Ferries.

I have a few photos to share from yesterday and some other days (lol): This was on that October day when the Cathlamet was operating Seattle-Bremerton. As we went up Alaskan way to go to REI we were stopped by a NB train: BNSF #4472 pulling a northbound train out of downtown Seattle by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr This was March 30th, a very very clear day: BNSF #5307 & 6710 pulling a southboud train into Seattle's Great Northern Tunnel by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr BNSF #4495, 5418 & 4744 pulling a southboud train into Seattle's Great Northern Tunnel by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr BNSF #7311, 7550 & 4862 pulling a southboud train into Seattle's Great Northern Tunnel by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr And all of the following were from yesterday... It amused me how close and unseparated 20th street is from the tracks: BNSF #6852 and others at Interbay by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Some 737s: BNSF #2925 & 2087 and some 737s at Interbay by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Another train going down the road: BNSF #1573 backing a train into Interbay by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Two locomotives of the two competitors together: BNSF #4868 and UP #7192 Stored at Interbay by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr

This is a really nice photo! These are C44-9W locomotives built by GE. I have a couple of HO versions of these on my track at home. Clean or dirty, these are handsome freight train pullers!

BNSF in Surrey: Why doesn't the middle locomotive have any place for a drive?

BNSF in Surrey: Why doesn't the middle locomotive have any place for a drive? I'm guessing you're asking why it doesn't have a cab? It was purchased by the Santa Fe as part of an order for 23 GP60B units for use on their high priority inter-modal trains. These trains run cross country, only stopping for new crews and fuel, so a cab isn't necessary if the locomotive will be spending all its time trailing one with a cab. They were most often used with GP60Ms like so: Image source: www.flickr.com/photos/mlrail/10656142524/

BNSF in Surrey: Unit 2710 is the regular power on a daily industrial switch operation that occurs on the tracks that front the property at my office in Seattle. Very surprised to see her north of the border. She has been replaced all week by a GP30, which is seen down here about once every six months.
