Coho horn goes up there with the Queen of Nanaimo, seems to be like the Walla Walla's except a two toner. The Walla Walla's is supposed to be a two-tone horn (B-flat major fifth, but who's counting?); have they changed out the whistles or got a bird nesting in one of the apertures? ;D The Wallys no.1 end whistle is now a B-flat major fifth, here is a few links

I shot a couple of videos with my iPAD on Sunday, July 1st (Canada Day). I'm new at doing this video thing, so I'm kind of learning here, but these didn't turn out too badly.
First up is us boarding Samish at Orcas
The second video is a short walk of Samish's upper deck, kind of like what Curtis does, only I'm not as good yet.

What time was the arrival in Kingston? I was waiting to get on the boat that afternoon! I was on the scheduled 4:45pm from Edmonds, which actually left at 4:50, so that put us into Kingston around 5:15, give or take.

Video I took last Saturday from the bow of MV Samish as we were approaching and docking at Orcas Island. I walked on this time around, so got to be first off.

Figured people here might like some aerial footage of the big boats. This was shot back in October on a clear crisp day.

I've driven that road many times through the years, including during the decade this was recorded. It's fun to "re-see" what it looked like back then in the last year of the 1980s decade, which featured cool attire, Nike windrunner jackets, and breakdancing among other cool stuff. The Steel Electrics got new steel passenger cabins and new generators during the 1980s.

Went to Orcas last weekend on one of our regular trips to see my folks. We walked on this time, and have actually done that the last couple of times since my mom has been generous enough to loan us her car while on the island. It works out great for us, too, when we don't have a bunch of stuff we need to bring. Anyway, I decided to shoot some videos on this trip rather than just take photos. So, here are a series of videos, some of which I stitched together, from our island trip:
1. MV Samish arriving at Anacortes. I was out on Kaleetan's pickle fork when I shot this. We walked on the late-running 09:00 MV Kaleetan departure serving Orcas and Friday Harbor, while Samish was arriving.
2. The boarding process and departure of MV Kaleetan. We left about 09:25, so 25 minutes late. In parts of this video, you can see vehicles disembarking MV Samish in Slip 1.
3. Arriving at Orcas. I started shooting while walking down the stairs to the car deck and end the video when the shore ramp is lowered.
4. Departing Orcas on the late running 11:30 MV Chelan sailing Sunday morning. We actually left at 11:50, so not too late, all things considered. It was enough, however, to delay Kaleetan as you will see in the video.
Anyway, something a little different than just photos. Enjoy!

On kind of a whim, went to San Juan Island yesterday to see English Camp because I had never actually been there, and it's been a long time (several years) since I've been to Friday Harbor. Usually just go to Orcas to see family. So, we drove up to Anacortes, a 2 hour drive from where we live in Gig Harbor, grabbed breakfast at Calico Cupboard in Anacortes, which is soooo good btw - then headed out to the ferry, parked the car, and walked on the 9:05am MV Samish sailing to Friday Harbor. I'm not sure, but they may have been close to breaking some records with the number of walk-ons for that particular sailing. The crews definitely had their counters out, and I know they left some cars behind to accommodate all of the walk-ons; hopefully, just the ones on standby. It was a packed sailing, for sure, and unfortunately, the upper passenger deck was not open, so everyone was vying for space on the main passenger level. There were still seats available, though. We got to Friday Harbor, then hopped on the shuttle bus which took us out to English Camp. It's a pretty cool little park, and a national park, at that. It's got an interpretive center in what was the old barracks hall, and the block house and garden are still there. Quite a few trails to go hiking on; we did the Bell Point Trail which goes from Garrison Bay around the point to Wescott Bay. We were there for a little over an hour, then caught the next shuttle back to Friday Harbor, and the 1:55pm MV Kaleetan sailing back to Anacortes - then drove home. So, just a day trip, but it was fun. The ferry ride back to Anacortes was unsurprisingly not very full.
This is a video I captured of our departure from Friday Harbor. It starts with Salish pulling into the tie-up slip to let foot passengers off before moving over to the main slip after our ferry (Kaleetan) departed. At 3:13 in the video, Kaleetan sounded her whistle, so extra bonus for that. The cars backing onto Kaleetan just before we pulled out were heading to Lopez, in case anyone is wondering why cars would be backing onto the ferry.
