Hello everyone,
I was wondering if any one knew if BC Ferries has any plans (or if any forum members have any plans) to celebrate the upcoming 60th Anniversary of BC Ferries which June 15th (as well as the 60th year of BC Ferries in General).
I remember for the 50th anniversary, BC Ferries created pins for staff and printed commemorative schedules and I think had other celebrations but not sure what else.
All the best

Unfortunately I probably won't get to go because I have school that day. If I am able to go though I am probably either going to ride the Queen of New Westminster, Coastal Renaissance, Spirit Class Vessel or the Queen of Oak Bay.

All the best I have not heard of any plans from BC Ferries in regard to the upcoming 60th Anniversary. I am down for making plans with other forum members to celebrate on June 15th with a day trip on a route or two though.

I will gladly do a trip with you or anyone else who is up to it as my grandad dad and uncle works for the ferries and my other uncle had worked aboard the ill fated PacifiCats. Cheers,Jimmy

Cheers,Jimmy As you are a forum member with 'close' connections to BCFS, maybe we can leave it to you to relay any 'scoops' regarding any BCFS 60th anniversary celebration plans they may be considering? If there was to be some sort of official celebration, I would definitely be interested in considering attending. Goodness only knows if I'd run into any old, (no pun intended), crew-mates from back in the '60's during my time with then B.C. Ferries, flying the Dogwood!

How has anyone been celebrating the Anniversary privately today? Reading historical books? Looking through older photographs?
Happy Birthday BC Ferries!

Thank you Dave for sharing those pictures, What is the purpose of the breakwater just south of the Tsawwassen terminal?

Well coincidentally I had to take an essential work trip to the mainland and back. I took route 1 over and 30 back due to scheduling and capacity issues with the load I was hauling. In the brief few minutes I was topside I looked for any signs of the anniversary etc. (certainly didn't expect anything) but it just felt weird and awkward up there so I retreated back to the car deck in a hurry.

Thank you Dave for sharing those pictures, What is the purpose of the breakwater just south of the Tsawwassen terminal? Purpose was to protect the original berths (berths 1 & 2), which were (and still are) exposed to the south.

Anniversary celebrations are on hold for now due to the recent fatality. Flags will be flown at half mast for the remainder of this month.
