Some more resting... this vessel actually was sailing the next day (19 Dec 2011). I am really posting these photos in preparation for some larger trip reports, ensuring I meet the new size requirements.

Apologies for the double post, but I thought it best to separate the two thoughts. I received these pictures by email a month or so ago and intended to post them... then promptly forgot. This is the first of nine new Hero class midshore patrol vessels being launched on 12 May 2012 at Irving Shipyards in Halifax. Called Private Robertson V.C., it is currently undergoing final outfitting, with delivery expected for mid July. The next ships should start rolling in at 3 month intervals. I do not know who the photographer is, otherwise I would credit them.

Hopefully the ship serves as important a role as he did.

CCGS Louis S. St. Laurent tied up downtown Sydney NS, undergoing emergency hull repairs. Earlier this week, the Louis was breaking a ship out of ice, and was damaged in the process. The emergency repairs being conducted here in Sydney will get it to St. John's or Halifax, where a temporary repair will be done to last through the rest of the icebreaking season, when she goes in refit before the arctic season begins. The last thing the CCG needs right now is an icebreaker out of operation, as they are already hurting with the CCGS Amundsen offline being re-engined.

"Shiprider" waterway enforcement program: bc.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/ViewPage.action?siteNodeId=50&contentId=30650DFO has been doing this for years in the East Coast fisheries. I suppose it was only a matter of time before the RCMP got into it as well. When I was on the Grand Banks fisheries patrols last fall, we often had a USCG enforcement officer on board along with the DFO fisheries officers.
