I'm not sure if Hurigruten qualifies as a ferry company anymore, since the better part of their fleet is now earmarked cruises in Arctic and Antarctic waters, but they still have seven ships sailing up and down the coast of Norway with passengers, cargo and vehicles between Bergen and Kirkenes. Therefore, I post this news, also because its content may be interesting to other companies elsewhere and also to some users of this forum that want to be kept informed about revolutionary solutions for future maritime propulsion. Two days ago, Hurtigruten issued a press release about a new zero-emission technology that the company wants to pursue over he next decade. It involves vessels with three retractable solar-paneled 'wing rigs' to create electricity. The full article on The Maritime Executive can be read here. Photos by Vard Design
