Hello Mod's
It appears that guest posting is disabled from the lower mainland, and perhaps others areas of the province, and the world. Of course we are aware that there have been one or two individuals who have abused the site, and perhaps they are the reason for the blocks. However In the past we have received excellent insider information through this avenue. Is it possible to block offenders while letting guests post relevant information?

That's something us moderators have talked about. Blocking problem IP-addresses was working fine, until some banned-members started using proxy-servers and proceeded to spam us uncontrollably as guests. So, because of this creative-spamming, we've had to ban guest-posting. Also, the robotic Asian-Spammers caused problems too, and moderators were faced with daily deletions (every morning) from various threads re the Asian-advertising spam. However, we've had a few new-members register and post only-occasionally, or only post 1 item. So, while it's a bit more work, the valuable world-wide contributors are still posting their comments (for example, member HHVferry, who posted in the Marine-Atlantic thread recently).

I have a technical question, being that I'm not very savvy on html stuff. How do you turn text into hyperlinks? I would like to be able to have a word, or words, represent the link to my photo hosting website, rather than just pasting the URL, as I currently do in my signature area. I've seen other members with text hyperlinks in their signatures area, so I know it can be done. Thanks!

Here's how it's done:
<text>
The text can be formatted (bold, italic, color, font, ect.).

This is one of those "couldn't find a better place to put it" things, but anyway: I have been here just a few days over two years now. That being said, you would think that I might have figured out in that time that if you click on the mating-slugs-thingie next to the title of the thread, that you will be sent directly to the last unread post in that thread. Yeah, for two years, I have been opening up every unread thread and manually scrolling down to where I think I left off. Yeah, I can be so technologically stupid sometimes. I'm quite sure that this revelation is totally obvious to virtually everyone who hangs out 'round these parts. Sorry to bore you with this. But I thought I would share with the two other people who haven't figured it out. Anyway, now I'm off to see what other kinds of trouble I can get into...

I'm not even seeing this "mating-slugs-thingie". Which skin are you using? It doesn't appear in every skin.

Skin!!! ? I use my own thank you very much. What are there aliens on the site who borrow skin? Explains alot actually . I have the blue/green graded background. Each post alternates from a teal colour to a blue and back. When ever anyone does knock out white type it disappears and I can't read it . When you put your cursor on the slugs it says "new" I never go to the main board anyways and usually just go to the last 80 posts.

OK, now. That was fun! It turns out that once upon a time last year, the default skin was changed to the new one with the blue and green backgrounds ("Default" or "Default Blue & White"). I remember now -- I gave that a good try for a couple of days, but I have trouble reading off the screen anything that has a brightly coloured background. So I switched back to something called "Westcoast Ferries - Bright" which looks a lot like the way it was before the default was changed. Then I promptly forgot that I was the one being different. Anyway, after playing around with the skins for a while, I found that there are some kewl ones out there. There are lots of neat modifications to some of them. But ultimately, I need the one with the white background. So, it turns out that in some of the skins, there is an obvious icon that has the word "NEW" on it. Clicking on that would get you to the latest unread post. But in some of the skins, that icon is a sort-of Mating Slugs logo. Then it's not so obvious. You can change your skin in the "Modify Profile" part of User CP. Just remember to put on enough sunscreen....

How is it that we seem to have lost 20,000 or so posts? I believe the total count was up to around 70,000, and now it's showing just over 50,000.

Posts that were December 31, 2007 and older were moved into the archives last week. The archives are not included into the total displayed on the information bar as the archives are hidden boards.

And just as a reminder, these "hidden boards" can be accessed from the link at the top of the website header.

Can anyone put the Archive page on the WCF site. it seems to be on a different connection. We could put the Archive, historic sites in that page or is there allready a place for that because i do not know how to get to these sites.

If you can't find the archive, the link to it is at the top of the screen, above the flagship-photo. It's separate because it's different; it's the archive!

Regarding the new layout of the forum: I like the layout. However, could I make some suggestions to make the "Ferry" Section not look so tall? Yes, I know we aren't big fans of sub boards. But it would be nice...
New Ferries: Now I don't oppose this board being demoted to sub board, but I think it makes more sense to have this in the BCF News Board.
Alaska Ferries: I'm still unsure if Alaska Ferries deserves its own board...maybe a sub board...but not a whole main board. Should be re-merged with the Washington thread.
BC's Historic Ships: Same as the Alaska thread, it either needs to merge with another board ("BC" Ferries maybe) or become a sub-board.
Cruise Ships: Does this count under "Ferry" Discussion? Just a thought.

Just a thought. New Ferries was made a sub-board due to it's decline in activity. The discussion there is not really "news" but really discussion on new ships. The Alaska Board was created in anticipation of an increase on discussion of AMHS and their new "Alaska Class" Ferries that are being planned. As for the Historical Ships board, people have interest in that kind of stuff so it makes sense to have that on the main page. Cruise Ships has just been moved down to the Non-Ferries section... I hope this clarifies the recent re-organization of things here.

i think that forum flagship shouldn't be a sub-board. It gets a lot of activity at the starts and ends of each month, so i think it deserves it.

I think that you have done a fine job with the reorganization. It looks good, and it is logical.
The only suggestion that I would have is that you should consider a separate heading under 'Non-Ferries' for Railways & related topics such as model trains.
