Just wondering if MV Issaquah finally got her new coat of paint during her recently completed annual maintenance period? I'll know tomorrow snce she does the 5:45 am out of Vashon (the sailing I'm normally). I hope it wasn't like the Kitsap where the repainting was mainly on the outside walls and over the outermost lane on each side. The grates over the windows in the stairwells needed new paint badly.

I was just on the Issaquah today and t appears the paint job was just mainly on the outside. The car deck is still rusty and an embarasment to the states #1 tourist attraction!!!! At least the outside looks decent though.

They'll probably end up repainting the rest whenever they get around to doing the other stuff (mainly security upgrades and an ADA compliant bathroom on the car deck) that would've been done last summer if the Elwha hadn't had her drive motor meltdown.

Is it about time for MV Tacoma to go out of service for the summer for painting and maintenance? Wonder which vessel will be shifted to replace her on the busy Winslow run? Will this be a problem for the experts or just the riders?

The Puyallup will replace the Tacoma, of course. What will replace the Puyallup is, however, anyone's guess.

The Kitsap would replace the Walla Walla on the Bremerton route until she goes down to replace the Issaquah. Presumably the Elwha would be back in service by 7/23 (which is when the Issaquah goes in for work). If not, then we have a big problem (which will get worse if she isn't back by August, which is when the Klahowya goes in for drydock).

Both the Tacoma and Issaquah are supposed to go in for their painting in July. I have heard the Puyallup will go to Bainbridge, the Walla Walla will go to Kingston, then the ? will go to Bremerton. Is the Issaquah supposed to be replaced by the Kitsap, or will the Evergreen be brought back to Vashon for a little while?? IF the Elwha is back, there should not be any major issues. That would mean that one of the supers would go back to Bremerton from the San Juans to replace the Walla Walla. I guess that only time will tell.

If we are reduced to a 124 and a 90, we are going to have some issues.

Yes, there will be. We're pretty much all hoping the Elwha gets over its sulking fit and gets itself on line and running. Flawlessly would be nice, in theory, but I don't suppose we'll be quite that lucky. *edit* to fix typo

How about I just do this now *SCREAM*, well then again, could we borrow your Evergreen Barnacle? We'd love to keep her in service as a third boat to Bremerton.

Hmm, now, hold on here...when has the Elwha *ever* run flawlessly...at least since December of 1990 when she said "hello" to the concrete pier in Everett repeatedly...

Dan--it might happen; you never know. Elwha: ugh... that one night bashing the pier... feh. That poor old boat has just never been 'right' since then. I know that in... oh, drat, 2001? whenever we did that stability test that I partook in... we discovered the hull has a three-inch twist in it. I often wonder if 'A' was related to 'B'...

I think that the most spectacular thing would be if we had a third boat. Didn't WSF have one of the S/Es (Quinault...a 75 minute crossing) a few years back to relieve passenger overcrowding in the mornings???

Last time I know of for certain was in 1988, but I think it's happened since then.

Looks like MV Tacoma will be late for the painters . I wonder if the summer painting schedule depends on the return of MV Elwa?

Well, I got to visit the Elwha this week... obviously it isn't going as smoothly as hoped; it was originally scheduled to be back in service in April. But bugs are being ironed out, and the vessel is getting slightly closer to being ready for service.
Someday. ;D

Last time I know of for certain was in 1988, but I think it's happened since then. Yes, it did...They were still working on the PO dock and had the Q-boat standing in for the PO boats. This would be about 1999 I think, either right after or shortly before the Snohomish came on line. I took one of the nicest sailings on the Bremerton route I ever had on the Quinault--it was a flawlessly beautiful summer day and the Quinault just chugged right along...What was nice was that people seemed to recognize they were on one of the vintage vessels in the fleet and really enjoyed the sailing.

Barnacle: Four posts in four minutes, and all coherent thoughts. We should be keeping records of such things, just like fastest goals in hockey. You are good, my man. Or maybe your morning coffee was a double espresso...

It definitely looks like repainting of the Tacoma has been delayed. No mentions of vessel changes in the bulletins.

When the MV Tacoma goes out of service for painting this summer, why wouldn't they just replace her with a Super, assuming that the MV Elwa will be back in service by then? If they shift a larger vessel from Edmonds/Kingston to the Winslow run and shift the MV Walla Walla to Edmonds, it seems like the REAL problems will be at Edmonds/Kingston where summer back-ups are already serious and a 3rd vessel is clearly needed. Just wondering..........

Not really, the difference between the Walla Walla and Puyallup car space is about 4 cars so it is not that big of a deal. The bigger of the problem is the Bremerton run to where we already have a 90 car vessel and rely on the Walla Walla to suck the leftovers. With only a Super and the Sealth, that is really crippling to our car capacity.

With only a Super and the Sealth, that is really crippling to our car capacity. With the smaller MV Sealth as the second vessel, I'm certain Bremerton would be a mess. Why not just replace the MV Tacoma with MV Elwa (assuming she comes back) on the Winslow run and leave the other vessels in place where they are for the summer?

It already is a mess...Especially on Sunday afternoons from Bremerton. The Sealth and Walla Walla are shuttling full loads back and forth. The Walla Walla is not able to pick up all of the leftovers...There are some long lines outside of the vehicle holding area on Sunday afternoons. As more people start vacationing on the Olympic Penninsula, the traffic will get worse.

Might the Q-boat get a little touch-up while she is out of service. I am not talking about a complete paint job, just a little TLC on her rusty sides.
