Please note that this is now the official thread to post photos and recaps of the next two open houses for the Coastal Renaissance.
This is the avoid clutter and make navigation easier.

So, just to re-cap....
What sailings are the brunt of the Mainlanders planning to catch?
I'm torn between catching either the 8:30am or 10:30am.
Also, who is planning on taking the Quinsam to Gabriola and back, to get photos of the CR sitting at the Assembly Warf? What sailing?
Denelson still seems to be set for meeting everyone along the seawall beside the Gabriola Ferry dock in Nanaimo. Who's actually planning on meeting at that spot, and who's planning on just going to the Ferry and possibly just going to run into the group by chance?

My rationale for staging at the Nanaimo Harbour ferry terminal is so I can know who to look for and schmooze before the open ship begins. I haven't actually met anyone on this board face-to-face, being way up here in the Comox Valley, and I would really like to work on my socialization.

I am planning to attend Nanaimo, but not do the Quinsam pre-event sailing.
I'm waiting to read the newspaper announcement, so that I can see what is suggested for parking, as the open-ship area is located in an out-of-the-way location.
I'm probably planning to arrive early, sometime between 11-12, so that I can mingle in the line-up area, before the tour starts. So I'm probably going to head from wherever I'm parking, to the assembly-wharf site, directly.
DNELson, you may want to PM people, to let them know what you look like, so that we can recognize you. Last year at the NorAd open-house, Kam gave his "description" and I was able to identify him and introduce myself, when we bumped into each other on the bridge.
I also suggest that members linger at the site afterwords, as at the NorAd open-house, we also met various members after the event too.
I've always found the ferry-forum members easy to spot, so I don't anticipate any problems in meeting up with you folks. I'll be ready with the "Are you Dave?" question....

Have we set a time to depart the Nanaimo Harbour staging area and head over to the wharf? I was wondering if we should try and get over to the line up at least 45 min before the open house as the Vancouver open house had a 90 minute wait....

Just to put this in an actual thread that's is getting airtime right now:
I'm still deciding on this one... I thought I had another week still.
There wouldn't happen to be anyone passing by Duke Point, though, if I maybe walked across from Tsawwassen.

I can pick you up if you take the 7:45 a.m. sailing to Duke Point. You'll be on the QofA.

Great... I'll keep it in mind and let you know definitely soon...
I'd assume I can get back to Duke Point the same way, too.

Michael and I are taking the 8:30 to get to Nanaimo and I think Dane is as well. The #2 Bus hits Downtown Nanaimo at around 10:30, which puts us at the Harbour Ferry Terminal at around 10:45 ish... I'll be down there taking some pictures of the Quinsam, etc, so we'll probably meet you folks 11-11:30 at the assembly wharf.

I'm not sure if going to Gabriola is really worth it for the mainlanders, as it makes things a little bit more difficult. I'm planning on catching the 8:30am sailing out of Horseshoe Bay, so that gets me to Departure Bay for 10:15am. Another 10 minutes later of a drive, would get me to the Gabriola Ferry dock. This would work perfect, if we wanted to connect on to the 10:35am sailing. The only problem is, it's a dangerous cargo sailing. The next sailing isn't until 11:40am, and would get us back into the Nanaimo harbour by 12:35pm, missing the rest of the group walk through of the ship. So seeming most of us are planning on arriving early, to be near the front of the line, we'd probably be on the CR for a good hour and a bit. Depending how fast we decide to run through it, and paying attention to fine detail. Now the next ideal sailing, would be the 1:55pm sailing out of Nanaimo Harbour. The problem with this sailing, is that there is a crew change on the Gabriola side. So we'd have an hour to kill on Gabriola, and then would arrive back in Nanaimo Harbour by 3:30pm. So if the Mainlanders really want to do that trip to Gabriola, and are fine with returning on the 5:00pm sailing, I'm fine with that as well. I could see the majority of the Mainlanders taking the 5:00pm home anyway, seeming the 3:00pm will make for a quick trip.

I'm almost confirmed for the Open House. I should have an official word by Friday. I'll probably be there around Noon or 1:00.

The 8:30 doesn't get in until 10:15...?
Well this certainly presents a problem...
the #2 bus leaves at 10:11.... getting downtown at 10:22. I, and quite possibly Jordan will catch the 10:43 bus out of Departure Bay, and be downtown at 10:54... then if we transfered to a 1 at 10:57, we'd be down at the wharf by 11... just like as planned.

Remember, staging means a chance for everyone to get together before we proceed to the main event. You don't have to show up at ten. You can show up at the staging point at a time of your choice between 10 and 11:15.

Isn't the Dangerous Cargo sailing only on Wednesdays? That's what it says on the BC Ferries site anyways. But if we want to be getting in line 45 minutes or an hour early, it would probably make most sense to take the 9:30 from Nanaimo Harbour and the 10:05 back from Gabriola. The other option is to go after the open house. If I go on the Gabriola trip, I'll probably take the 6:30AM from Horseshoe Bay and do a morning round trip to Gabriola rather than wait until the afternoon.

Yes Dangerous Cargo sailings are Wednesdays not Saturdays. If you were planning to do the 9:30am sailing to Gabriola John me and Scott could join you as we are planning to go over. It will be good for photos of the CR so you dont want to miss out. I know it is kinda hard for some of the Vancouver guys to get to Gabriola too.

Who is all planning to take the 5pm back to Horseshoe Bay??? If the majority of people are going back on that sailing I might do a trip over to join you guys. What about you Scott?? You wanna do a roundtrip back to Hoseshoe Bay with everyone?

I'm still not sure on this one. I still can't say for sure if I can make it, because I have a friend who's trying to plan my day for me. Maybe I should make him go on a ferry trip with me.
I'm leaning more towards going out of Horseshoe bay now, though, much as I'd like to do a walk on to Duke Point and see the Alberni again. But does anyone know what the availability of parking is likely to be in or around the parkade?
