I am the only female who joins in group trips. Where are the rest of you ladies hiding?
Don't get me wrong, the guys are absolutely awesome to hang out with, but sometimes I feel awkward being the only girl in the group.

Are there any other female forum members? Knowing your comedic agenda re this topic, I was expecting a reply from you re this matter. ;D Why don't you do a search of the membership roster of this forum, and report back, re the # of members that report themselves to be female ? Take this on as a project.... Also, why not post a "Rico Suave" picture of yourself, on a ferry, as a means of attracting more females to this forum? You could be our chick-magnet. What a fantastic opportunity.

lol... my g/f Tanya could be considered a 3'rd party member. She sits and reads over my shoulder and knows just about everything going on but never bothers to log on herself for some reason. And she waves hi!

I only made my previous comment because it seems the Esquimalt Queen~ is the only active female on this forum. I in no way made my comment to anger anybody of the female gender. Flugel- there are 8 members that are female. Might be more but that is all the shows up. Some of these members have not posted in over 6 months.

Out of the 8 females who are listed, one is from the UK, and two are from the states. This might make group trips inconvenient for them. Out of the other females, there are 2 who do not have their location listed, perhaps they too live too far to join these outings.
I am not sure where to go from here.

Starbucks Queen (from Germany?) was quite a prolific poster when she was active but we haven't heard from her lately.

Maybe the West Coast Ferries Forum should start a marketing campaign geared towards the female ferry fan.

Mayby we should get BCF to change the stripe on the ships to pink or something more feminine. That might attract more Females. ;D In all fairness and not to be rude or sexist, but not to many woman are interested in large heaps of metal that float (ferries) the same way men are, let alone any large, noisy, metal objects. Its a guy thing. (I'm not saying your a guy there Queen of Esquimalt, no guy in his right mind would call himself the Queen of Esquimalt) At work when I comment on a ferry related item the guys are interested wile all the women role there eyes. Cheers.

I have never been able to figure it out, but I find that it is mostly guys who have interest in transportation. Also being the transit fan that I am, the transit forums that I go to is also male dominated.
It's just a strange constant of the universe...

I had an ex girlfriend of mine (who wasn't an ex of course at the time), join the forum a couple of years ago. I nearly had her right into the Ferries until we broke up.
Back at New Years, I went over to the Island with two female friends of mine, who were sort of aware of my interest with the Ferries. I gave up on trying to talk "Ferries" with them, once they had asked me why we had to sit in the lineup at Horseshoe Bay, as we waited for the Ferry to arrive.
But I know there's more female Ferry geeks out there. We discovered one who was a Deckhand, on the Queen of Tsawwassen, when we did the Circlepac trip to Powell River in April.

Do you know of any BCTransit forums somewhere else that I can join?

I want a girlfriend who loves the ferries and loves riding the ferries like I do! That is hard to find though. I know some girls I have talked to think it is weird and others think it is cool. Another said it was cute when I said I like riding ferries, lol!

Yeah, well I too would like that. I want a boyfriend who loves the ferries and loves travelling on them. That way, I would be able to spend my Sundays and other off days with him travelling on ferries...'cause we all know I haven't seen my boyfriend in weeks. I'm too busy spending my off days with you boys.

I'm a female, but I won't be going on any group trips until my husband retires from the Shipbuilding industry. (approximately 6 years from now) I'm camera shy and I don't want to take the risk of having my picture show up on the forum, until then.
My Dad, uncle, brothers, husband and brothers-in-law were all employed in the Shipbuilding Industry here in BC. Shipbuilding was always one of the topics that we all talked about, with the family and Friends.
Meanwhile, I will continue to stay in the background.

Dan's mom accompanies him on most of the trips and she never appears in the photos. I am sure accomodation can be made. The Queen of Richmond successfully elludes photography and sje is a whole lot of metal. However, some people just prefer to participate on the forum. That is great too because we value your information and some of the historical info from your kin.

I'm sure that there are others who may also not want to have their faces on the web. Thanks for commenting on that, that's a good issue to raise. Flugel.

Maybe the West Coast Ferries Forum should start a marketing campaign geared towards the female ferry fan. We should strive to broaden our user base beyond just the core of ferry geeks to a more general ferry user forum. Maybe do more to facilitate discussions on the romantic aspect of ferry cruising, and dedicate some sections to matters that would be more up their alley. How about putting some emphasis on the scenery and the dining and shopping, and both onboard and on shore, and other news and events of interest to your average ferry user? And provide an outlet for the general public to vent about ships being late, service being lousy, passengers being idiots and whatnot. Also try and improve our bond with tourist bureaus, businesses, governments and the like, and maybe they'll link and refer their visitors and clients to this board as a helpful resource. Try and invite people from within the BCFS organization to do some Q&A and put themselves in the line of fire.
